Congratulations South Dakota!
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 05:44 AM by Richardo
I woke up this morning to some of the best political news in a good long while...NPR's Morning Edition clicked on with my alarm telling me Stephanie Herseth won the special congressional election.

:bounce: Party in the SD State Forum!

1. As SD goes, so goes the nation?
Do you suppose this is a harbinger of what is to come in November?

2. We can only hope - but it was close in SD (51-49%)...

...and she'll have to do it all over again in November. :( They say she had a 6-point lead going into the election, and started in the double digits, so the REpub machine was cranking up there at the end. I don't know if Johnson's remarks about the GOP Taliban backlashed on Stephanie. Any South Dakotans know?

She (and the rest of us) will have to bear down and work our asses off to win in November. I think the momentum is out there in the moderate Republican and independent camps, but it will still take a lot of concerted effort to turn it around in the Dem direction.

7. An extra tidbit of good news from the Daily Kos
Some folks are alarmed that Herseth won "only" 51-49. In 2000, South Dakota went for Bush 60-38. That's a pretty hefty turnaround between elections. Bush, who is going to have to scramble for every electoral vote again this time, may have to spend campaign money in South Dakota that he didn't spend last time. Which means he'll have less to spend in other places. Which is good news.
