David Brock's "The Republican Noise Machine" - a big revelation.
Edited on Mon May-31-04 04:22 PM by MikeG
I had thought the media might be 50-60% fixed in favor of the Conservatives. No. Try 100% fixed.

The only good thing I see? If they have to try so hard to slant the media their way, they must know they are wrong.

What this means is that we are wasting our time turning on the tube.
I'm sticking to the internet and Air America. Everything else is polluted.

1. I saw him on c-span last week and it reinforced the idea that I have to
get the book. I'm curious to know why he states 100%.

2. The republican effort to cow the press spans decades.
He gives in complete detail how they have succeeded. It is all-encompassing and devastating. There is no safe haven for a liberal on TV. They go on TV they get ambushed. Its the rules.

6. I remember hearing him talk about the myth of liberal media, but I
don't remember a 100%. Thanks for the response....I feel so comforted./sarcasm

Then again, I might have heard something close to it, but an older man called in and got some very nasty language on the air before he was cut off and I remember being shocked about the language and the hate in his voice so I could've forgotten some of what was said.

9. The 100% is my conclusion after reading the book.
Brock goes through each media outlet and source and explains how they shut out liberals.

10. I'll give a for instance.
Crossfire: Buchanan vetoed Mark Green in favor of Michael Kinsley because Green did better against him.

5. They aren't wrong
They're lying about their motives. They need masterful propaganda to make their voters vote against their own interests. The conservative movement is a conspiracy of the 1% whom their ideas actually benefit to fool as many as possible into voting for them. The propaganda machine is where most of their resources go -- the rest is simple racket, embezzlement and fraud.

7. Yeah
There's a stat that 25% of Americans or something think they're in the top 1%. This kind of manipulation requires constant, orchestrated propaganda, over a long period.

11. I did not realize Buchanan's role in the Nixon administration.
Nor did I realize that Nixon ordered Colson to turn Efron's fraudulent book into a best seller.

I thought I was up on things, but I am only a few pages in and am shocked.

Try 110% control.

12. "...wasting our time turning on the tube"
Glad to see more folks realizing what is being force fed to the sheeple. Not that you are one, but there are plenty out there, and now we know why there are so many.

If you do tune in, watch with a critical eye and ear to how that even when they air a liberal item, they always blow it away with something else far from liberality.

They know the power that is involved with information dispersal and they are working to have all the power they possibly can. If they ever control the web, (they never will) it would be all over for freedom and democracy.

I almost never buy anything I see advertised on TV or newspapers. I refuse to support their businesses.

13. So true
with few exceptions, watching TV news is an absoulute waste of time if your objective is to be informed. In fact, I think for most people, it's counterproductive, as it ends up misframing the issues.

I am thankful that people on DU and elsewhere watch that crap though- because I suppose it's important to know what they're saying- so long as you don't get sucked into it. I won't watch it, that's for sure-

Like you. I avoid anything advertised on TV or in our profoundly bad local paper. Typically, I avoid brand names too- and NEVER purchase anything endorsed by "celebrities" or that ties in with movies-
