On Memorial Day, I ask for remembrance...
Don't turn against the true purpose of this day in reaction to neocon and ultranationalistic militarism. Just ignore them, celebrate this day as we should, patriotically and somberly.

1. Remembering soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense
of their nation, should remain non partisan.

2. Somberly....
not patriotically. There is no patriotism nowadays...its all commercial.
We have to remember that our fine men and women are being
sacrificed for an UNJUST cause. We need to take back our country.
We need to bring our troops back home...so they can fight here!

3. poetry
"Soldier, rest! Thy warfare o'er,
Sleep the sleep that knows not breaking,
Dream of battled fields no more.
Days of danger, nights of waking."

~Sir Walter Scott

"Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours."

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Unlearned Lesson

Memorial Day
Of every year
The little valiant
Flags appear
On every fallen
Soldier's grave--
Symbol of what
Each died to save.
And we who see
And still have breath--
Are we no wiser
For their death?

~Dorothy Brown Thompson~

4. We Laid Flowers
on the graves of my mother-in-law and father-in-law. She was a lieutenant in the WACs, he a Colonel in the Air Force.

Mentally, I laid flowers at the graves of:
my father, a WW II vet, my grandfather, also a WW II vet, my great uncle, killed in the Coral Sea in WW II, my brother, a Vietnam vet, my cousins, Viet Nam vets, my great grandfather, WW I vet, my Civil War vet ancestors and so on, back past the Indian wars and the Revolutionary War.

My family's blood and my wife's family's blood stains the soil of America, Germany, Viet Nam, Korea, so many places.

I figure it this way... wre my ancestors noble? No, they couldn't seem to get out of the damn way of flying bullets fast enough!

SHEESH!!!
