DISTURBING RESULTS in survey about Americans' beliefs about IRAQ WAR!

http://www.pipa.org/

I'm not sure how many of you have already seen this but it's very interesting. It was published about a month ago. It's a study by an institute at the University of Maryland that studies American's understanding, and misunderstanding, of international issues. http://www.pipa.org/ Look under "recent studies." They did a large telephone survey asking 4 QUESTIONS ABOUT IRAQ such as "HAVE WMD BEEN FOUND IN IRAQ?" and "Does the international community support us in Iraq?" THE PUBLIC DOESN"T HAVE A CLUE!! Those that voted for Bush and watched Fox News were terribly misinformed (shocking), while those that tuned in to PBS/NPR and other news sources were very well informed. This report really pissed the right wing off, who tried to say the questions were biased. I don't see how since they were the simplest possible sentence structure dealing with facts at the elementary school level!

1. Pretty frightening.
Some of the results budged a little bit over time, but most have stayed steady.

Now, either people just aren't listening, or they just don't care about the truth.

5. It depends on the definition of WMD's.
I'm sure not saying anything good about Coulter. She's a certifiable IDIOT! But I've heard others, like Duncan Hunter, say the same thing. Yes, they did find "A" shell containing serin gas components. I guess they also found "A" shell containing some other gas components a few weeks ago. If you describe that as "finding", they yea, I guess they were found. That's a far cry from the TONS what "We knew were there", or any ongoing nuclear bomb program.

People have to realize that almost ANY statement can be isolated so finitely that it becomes true. Thank about it. If I made the statement that EVERY DRIVER is a criminal, you'd say that's crazy. But....is there any driver who hasn't EVER broken some law (speeding, parking and letting the meter expire, changing lanes when you aren't allowed). Even if you didn't get caught, you still broked the law, thus you're a criminal.

We can only hope that most people who care enough to vote will see through this BS, and vote accordingly.

7. She made those statements before the left over shell was found.
But, perhaps the media will be forced to clarify that this "shell" was ALL that we found ...

8. I'm actually surprised that that wasn't turned into a bigger news story
My guess is that the shell was probably a leftover from Iran-Iraq that got mislabeled and put in with a conventional stockpile. I was expecting the Republicans to hype the finding to the moon though.

9. Me too. I am certain they will eventually. You will hear all the RW
mouth pieces doing so. The Prez can't because he'd be called on it. But, Limbaugh/InsHannity/Coulter and their ilk won't hesitate. :eyes:

Welcome to DU!!! :hi:

6. The Bush Crime Family is very well aware of how this works
I wish I'd have kept it, but once upon a time I saw a quote attributed to Bush1 which went something like this: Who cares if you tell a lie which gets broadcast to 40 million people on TV? The correction only reaches 2 or 3 thousand. (Something like that.) They know very well what they're doing. They'd all put Goebbels to shame.
