This is totally scary stuff. Totally. In history, we've read of the atrocities, secret arrests, totalitarian structuring of society, et al, committed by tyrant regimes (Hitler, Soviet Russia) and now the same thing is going to happen to the United States of America of all countries.

Does the American populace know of this? If they do, would they accept it anyway, because "It can't happen to me, just like AIDS, losing my job, or even the common cold can't happen to me."

And given how every law passed gets perverted and allowed for things not even remotely connected to the law's original intent, passing P-II is going to mean the crucification of America.

This isn't pushing an envelope. It's ripping it to shreds and burning the resultant confetti.

All we can do is conform.

2. I will fight.....
there will be nothing left of the America that I once loved and
therefore it will be time to fight.
I refuse to be a slave or a prisoner, I would much prefer die
fighting than become a sheep.

from the remaining free countries around the world. We're going
to have to prevent these despots from launching nukes on these other
nations... We have to prevent the downfall of human kind as a whole.
Prevent the diabolical "rapture".

5. "Revelation" had two choices as I recall...
1. A world government is formed by the free will of all involved.

2. A world government is formed under duress.

Is Bush* vying for #2?

Today America, tomorrow the world? I'm sure he's a happy little madman right now despite the photo-ops of him looking upset, ashamed, or disturbed.

behind closed doors on a Saturday afternoon...like he does with his judicial appointments? I KNOW I read that somewhere.

Here it is. :(

While the nation was distracted last month by images of Saddam Hussein's spider hole and dental exam, President George W. Bush quietly signed into law a new bill that gives the FBI increased surveillance powers and dramatically expands the reach of the USA Patriot Act.

The Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004 grants the FBI unprecedented power to obtain records from financial institutions without requiring permission from a judge.

Today's the Day. Under the law, the FBI does not need to seek a court order to access such records, nor does it need to prove just cause.

Previously, under the Patriot Act, the FBI had to submit subpoena requests to a federal judge. Intelligence agencies and the Treasury Department, however, could obtain some financial data from banks, credit unions and other financial institutions without a court order or grand jury subpoena if they had the approval of a senior government official.

The new law (see Section 374 of the act), however, lets the FBI acquire these records through an administrative procedure whereby an FBI field agent simply drafts a so-called national security letter stating the information is relevant to a national security investigation.<snip> There's more...follow the links.

8. Ah. That's not quite the same or as encompassing as "Patriot" II...
But I'd guess that he's doing the little things now and, at the right time, push P-II as a "logical continuation to protect our freedoms". :eyes:

11. I read, again, "somewhere"
that that IS the Patriot Act II...they just changed the name of it. I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time and certainly won't be the last. ;)

7. Where's Kerry on Patriot Act II?
Anybody?

(Pre-emptive strike: I'm pretty familiar with his comments on the original Patriot Act, how about his thoughts on PA II?)

9. What were Kerry's comments on the original Patriot Act?
Just curious, P-II has far more relevance today.

12. Yep.
I would be most interesting in hearing what Kerry's justification for supporting the first one is.

13. If Pat II (P'Too!) Gets Passed...
I'll be behind bars. Seriously. And so will a lot of us.

My name is on *so* many lists right now... I've joined, been allied with, participated in, known, run with SO many groups that will be (or already have been deemed) subversive, that I'll get jugged for any of a dozen reasons.

But then I'll have the last laugh. Right now the government pays under $800.00 a month (Social Security Disability) to keep me in "luxury". When I'm in PRISON, they'll pay a shitload MORE for my sorry gimped out arse!

Innit funny how the Repukes just HATE to spend <$800/month to feed folks who are honest, and don't even turn a hair at upwards of $5,000/month (or more) PER PRISONER!!

So yeah, if I end up in the calaboose bustin' rocks, at least I *know* my healthcare is covered!

I'm *already* used to being just a number! So fuck 'em high, hard and hot as hell! I don't GIVE a speckled shit!
