What America needs IMO .......The American Deal
Edited on Sun May-30-04 12:11 PM by vetwife
My Deal for America.

Open the books. All of them. All the way back to FDR. No more hiding under executive priviledge. Truth. That is what America needs. Not spin. No matter who fell from grace, no matter which party got hurt. A complete accounting of what is going on !
I would have a cabinet post designed to put the truth out to the American people. It would not be like any commission we have every seen. There would be representaives of American scholars from every party. Not just Republican, democrat, but every party to examine what this country does with the taxpayer money. It would be like a mini UN Roundtable of Democrats, Republicans, greens, reforms, liberterians, socialists, and non party affiliation of any sort to examine the deals from the IMF to the CAFTA and NAFTA agreements. There would be no closed door sessions. It would be a daily reporting and consequences paid for any elected officials who did not live up to thier oath of office to protect the Constitution and sold us out. There would be a reporting to the UN and brought before the world an accountability of the United States actions regarding Foreign policy and special interests.
There would be a cabinet Called Honor in Truth and Fact. That is what we need and will never ever see it but that is exactly what you and I need. Yes we can handle the truth. Everytime I put gasoline in my car, I wonder who will die from this act of just putting gas in the car today. I think until the Truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth is told.....Nothing will make America a better place. We could really try and form a more perfect union.

Lay them out..Maybe someone, somewhere will stumble across what the American people really think ! And really desire for their burden of war and blood and inequality. Where is the money that we are paying going?

4. take the UN out of the equation and...
I think most Americans would agree with you. Americans want open and honest government, but they don't trust the UN by WIDE margins...especially when it comes to inflicting policy on us.

8. At least not without a gun in your hand.
Note: This post in no way advocates the violent overthrow of the US government.

9. The truth of your statement..
is frightening to people. And it should be, no one wants to have to go to fight and die for their rights but sometimes it is the only option.

A good example of this was Nelson Mandela's battles with Apartheid. They started their campaign by modeling it after Gandhi's peaceful, non-violent methods that worked in India and routed the British.

What they didn't understand though is the White South Africans weren't going to leave like the British did. So they began to get massacred and one of those in particular was especially brutal. Young children, dressed for school, were singing protest songs and they were fired upon by the authorities and many killed and wounded.

It was long after this that they abandoned the idea of peaceful, non-violent protests. They began to arm themselves and to use bombs to carry their message.

Instead of being called freedom fighters...they were labeled as "terrorists". Sound familiar?

Things in America are no where near what the situation was in South Africa but only a fool would say that peaceful, non-violent protest is the ONLY method to get what you want. Using violence as a means of political gain is absolutely the worst choice.

7. Too ethical and honorable. It will never happen.
Especially when republicans are in charge, but in all honesty, most politicians would be against this. Maybe the Green party would endorse such a move, but that action would mean the end of it.

But total honesty and revealing all of the truth honestly is the only way to get Americans to trust thir government again.

10. Well, it will never happen but we need to vote all the bad ones out and
make sure the new ones live up to truth. I think if we pondered something like that, we would find that America has been cutting deals all the way to the Mayflower. I know they broken all the treaties with the Native americans. I just don't truth is too much to ask for and I do oppose violence. That is what got us in this mess.

11. Absolutely yes
Too much is hidden in secrecy. Maybe most citizens like it that way because then they can be blissfully ignorant going about their lives unaware.

But I think our country will destroy itself unless everyone knows what is going on and steps are taken to correct the wrongs our 'shadow government' has done and is doing.

We as a people are responsible for what our government does.
