If you agreed with Gore's speech, then you must be clinically insane
That was the phrase being tossed around by the right-wingers this morning on C-SPAN. The right-wing guest and host did not dispute any of the callers' claims so it must be true. I kept waiting for someone -anyone - to ask the callers if they watched the speech or just the clip and its interpretation on cable TV? But alas! Not to be.

The guest said that Gore had probably ruined any hope for a political future after his "intemperate" remarks. If that doesn't make you question your sanity, what will? :) But I'll tell you what really drives me crazy. People such as Peter Goff, the UPI guest, and others that continue to deny the disaster we now have in the White House and the miserable failure of this administration. It drives me crazy just how much these folks are out of touch with reality - not just political reality but the reality of their everyday lives.

They ignore Gore's comments because they cannot permit the truth to enter their small, illusory world. In November, we will know who needs to see their doctor for depression. I still like Kerry's chances. :)

1. Wellstone Memorial Syndrome
This looks like a strain of it.

So many who never saw it could talk of nothing else and of course had nothing nice to say.

18. Gaslighting
Seems like every recent event that has made me feel real pride and passion for the Democratic party i.e. the Wellstone memorial, Dean's campaign, Gore's speech has been mocked, ridiculed and ruled outrageously unstable.

Funny, I don't feel crazy, but that could be a symptom of insanity too. What would Ingrid Bergman do?

2. Call me insane then - How could anyone listen to or better yet read the
text of that speech and not be moved? My God, Gore said everything that needed to be said. He spoke the truth, which is more than anyone in this administration has ever done. My guess is these people did not hear ONE word of the speech. They focused entirely (if they watched it at all) on Gore's mannerisms and passion. Hell, they probably couldn't understand the words - Gore used some mighty big multisyllabic terms, and he pronounced them correctly. How could you possibly expect Dumbya's supporters to understand a word he spoke? These neocon neanderthals hate intellectualism. They love having a president with a lukewarm IQ. Makes them feel superior.

3. They're not out of touch
They know what they're doing, they're just seeking to curry favour with the powers that be. When Kerry wins with Democrats running both houses, they'll change their tune to support him, too and talk about "shocking revelations" of how incompetent the Republicans were.

That is why they're media whores.

Sorry, if you DISAGREE with Gore that the actions were dishonorable and disgraceful, YOU are clinically insane. Gore sounds like the ONLY sane person on TV lately.

6. C-Span seems to be leaning more to the right
Has anyone else gotten this impression? I listened to Brian Lamb and Robert Novak answering callers one morning a few weeks ago and they teamed up against everyone on the left. Brian called Novak his good friend. I was really pissed by the end of the program.

10. It Does Not Matter, My Bluegrass Friend
The speech was a marvel, and the excerpt from it most frequently played is a stirring and powerful piece of oratory, that will affect favorable anyone exposed to it who is not already irredeemably committed to the enemy....

"How DARE they drag the good name of the United States of America through the mud of Saddam Hussein's torture prison!"

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

Let's encourage them to show the clip more and more...because it is a powerful message to anyone that has not yet sold their soul to the enemy... I say we encourage them to show it more....

Maybe C-Span should change its practice of one guest at a time.

The C-Span hosts are neutral, and so a rightwing idiot can dominate under the current setup.

It was the best and most important speech in recent time.

The Repugs are just jealous of anyone who can speak eloquently for 45 minutes.

Oh, and the truth scares the shit out of them too...

17. We are either traitors, unpatriotic, or insane. I give a sh*t
Call me insane if that is what it means to speak up against an completely incompetent leader who is endangering America's freedom and democracy.

I consider anyone who is still supporting Bush unpatriotic. Everything he does goes against America's values and endangers us and our country.

19. Both Sides' Callers are Mostly Crap
I used to listen to C-SPAN Sunday mornings and was amazed at the pro-Bush callers and the crap they spewed.

Sad thing is, the anti-Bush callers weren't any better! Just flip-flopping from one extreme to the other.

I gave up when few on either side could string together any cohesive argument.

20. I'll Be God Damned
It is the height of sanity for a Statesman to try to change the course of his nation when it is woefully out of line with the national ethos. It is the simple acceptance of the incompetence of the Administration of George W. Bush that is insane. Al Gore is to be praised for his dedication to country and particularly for having made that wonderful, insightful, and honest speach. I have had fellow Democrats say the had heard the speach was 'over the edge' and I have asked them immediately, did they actually hear the speach themselves? The answer has invariably been 'no'. I'll be god damned if that is an acceptable answer. Listen to the speach and then tell me its insane, and if you believe it to be than as far as I'm concerned you can be god damned as well.

22. must be lots of them crazy folk out there
the Gore speech is currently the most watched video on the c-span site with John Kerry's 5/27 speech on National Security policy at #2.

Greg Palast's Washington Journal segment has been in the top 5 since it first aired on 5/5.

25. at the same time they say Kerry has no passion?!?!?
We should call on the NYTimes to do an article on the marginalization of Gore. Where can I find the text? We could start by showing that Gore didn't say anything that republicans/former generals have said.
