another 'dittohead' comes into the light...
my writing partner was talking to his sister in SC and his brother--a committed (or do I mean 'should be committed') dittohead came on the phone.

my partner just *had* to ask how he felt about the current meltdown in Iraq.

to his amazement, his brother was 'totally fed-up' with Bush and will be voting Kerry this Fall. my partner was dumbstruck.

a month ago he reported that a seriously repub co-workers had turned away from the kook-aid.

hell, even my mother had little or no defense. she might not vote Kerry, but, she might not vote either...

who is taking those polls?...

i believe the bushies are in for a painful shock come November...

1. I believe you are right.
Most of those who intend to vote for the Miserable Failure are too ashamed to admit it. That's something. :)

2. Even David Brooks (UGH!) concedes that Bush* is in trouble...
I caught a rerun of Chris Matthews this morning at 5 a.m. EST, and David Brooks said that Bush is 20 points behind in some of the western states.

3. In my puny remote Oregon town, a local merchant wants bush again
He says, "I like to vote for incumbents because they don't worry about being elected again and can do what they want."

My jaw dropped to the floor. I was totally dumbstruck. He's an intelligent man (usually) and yet manages to come up with just about the most asinine statement of the year.

4. The polls are a lie.
Your experience is very similar to mine. I have several Repub co-workers who are not going to vote for * again. My parents have said the same thing...these are hard-core Repubs...my parents have voted Repub almost all their lives. *'s base is erroding every day but from the polls you would think he is doing pretty good.

6. Yes. They are corporate polls just like the media is corporate.
Same deal. It HAS to be close or they cannot steal it.

7. In 1980 Carter was tied with Reagan until 8 days before the election
At this stage, everyone stares in disbelief at the President. Only about a few weeks before the vote will wavering supporters and swing voters start to say, "Well, Kerry seems capable... I'm gonna vote for a change."

not a single positive word for the chimp.

these are working moms and dads... blue and white collar... getting hammered by taxes, both parents working... and an older couple (my brother-in-law's parents)

if my parents had been there they would have been very very lonely indeed... (unless they too have given up on * and just won't admit it to me yet....

it was a lovely afternoon.... and the weather was nice too...

at one point, talking about the BILLIONS going into Iraq while everything else is neglected here, I pointed to the 8+ kids playing in the yard (3-13yo) and said:

and it going to be them who's stuck with the bill

there was no argument.
