1. She could run
but I'm not sure she'd have a chance.

4. she could run for congress in a good liberal district
but it'd be a very hard-fought congressional race, but I tell you, if she gives birth, that'd be a hell of a great photo op when her saying, "I can't wait to get to Congress to make sure that my child receives the best healthcare, the best education possible, and to make sure that he has every opportunity that this wonderful country has to offer him."

7. Gwen Moore (WI-4)
Is a state senator who is running for Congress. Her current senate district is interesting -- she has parts of very white, fairly wealthy Glendale and Shorewood, as well as a lot of inner-city neighborhoods.

She was an 18-year-old single mother (she's now a single grandmother -- I don't know if she ever married in the interim). If she wins her primary, she'll be elected to Congress -- the district is very Democratic. (The republicans are countering by running this guy -- http://www.coreyhozeforcongress.com/ -- who has no real platform except anti-choice -- the rest is "support jobs, lower taxes for working family, protect America" platitudes. Oh, and he's black, which is the real reason they're running him.)

She's in, so far, a four-way primary race, and she does have quite a bit of support. Her other opponents are two white men (one of whom is openly gay) and a white woman. Very diverse group. It'll be interesting to see where this one goes. I can't imagine her single-mother status impacting this election very much, and that's refreshing.

9. I just saw the movie Saved...and if that movie is any sign of the ....
... direction America is heading, I think your candidate could win.

10. In a word: No.
Middle America would view it as irresponsible and possibly immoral, depending on the circumstances.

But she has a right to run and see for herself. If she can get the donations, more power to her.

11. Imagine her campaign
The other candidates and I'd say about a quarter of the interested population would be all over her like Dan Quayle on Murphy Brown - only worse, because she's not a TV character. And then about half would be asking questions like "Who's the father?" and "What's his role?" and "How does she plan to fulfill the duties of her office?" How much maternity leave does she expect? Does she plan to breastfeed? What about the baby? Who will take care of it while she's at work? Is it really possible for a woman with a new baby to be effective in such an important job?

It would be horrible.
