Poll question: Can any People have a democracy if they don't do it themselves?
Can any People value and preserve Democracy if they do not fight and sacrifice personally to obtain and preserve it??

Do kids value something their parents give them?

Do people value something their neighbors brought over and left in their kitchen?

Can any American value something that they leave to others to preserve and maintain - a little like a job left for the night janitors?

Discuss.

1. Nope.
You can't have democracy -- it's something you have to BE, mon.

2. I said no
When YOU die for something it is worth it, otherwise you are occupiers.

Who studies harder, the kid whose parents pay everything or the kid working at Starbucks?

3. Consider ...
... what this might imply about having a Universal Service Obligation.

By "Universal Service Obligation" I mean that every person, male or female, gay or straight, black or white, rich or poor, abled or disabled, between the ages of 18 and 35 is obligated to serve in some national capacity for 18-48 months, whether it be as an infantryman or park serviceman, peace corps volunteer or public health service orderly, fighter pilot or doctor/nurse for veterans or the poor.

... what this might mean about the difference between "removing a regime" (like Saddam?) and selecting a subsequent regime.

4. amen that is what I have been saying for so long
that my kids are sick of hearing me. Also would you like your democracy imposed by the same people that supported your most recent dictator???? I'm sure the Iraqis think that we will just choose another Sadaam type leader

5. There doesn't seem to be much disagreement ...
... so I guess we really don't value it very much.
