Colin Powell, largely because he seems able to grasp that the current administration has made mistakes, and he admits these, taking steps to avoid similar ones in the future. John McCain would be a very, VERY close second though.

I don't know very much about John Warner though, so I must confess I did not consider him very seriously

The man was asked to put on his "war uniform" and lie in front to the UN. Read his doctorine about going to war and the lessons from Vietnam not to let Rummy boy of the hook. Perhaps deep down inside he has good intentions but his behaviour in this administration has not been noble.

23. Ron Paul, Too
I read his website periodically and saw him for the first time tonight on Bill Moyer's NOW.

Reminded me of the time when I actually viewed the GOP as a legitimate counterpoint to us evil liberals. Back then, I even agreed with them on certain issues!!!

Alas, that was before Limbaugh and Newt's Revolution turned them into rabid charlatans.

35. The only respectable
Republicans are ones that are not whoring for Bush and even those are questionable.

Lindsey Graham, Chuck Hagel, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, John McCain. I'd put money on it when push comes to shove they will be circling their wagons around their boy king.

I'd like to see one Repug come out and say that he's not supporting Bush in 2004. I have no love of Zell Miller but he was willing to cross party lines for his beliefs, as squewed as they may be. Name one Republican willing to do the same.

38. The Republican I most respect penned the following words:
It is confidence in the men and women who administer the judicial system that is the true backbone of the rule of law. Time will one day heal the wound to that confidence that will be inflicted by today’s decision. One thing, however, is certain. Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year’s Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation’s confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law.

Stevens, J., dissenting
Bush, et al., v. Gore, et al.,
531 U.S. ___ (2000)

Justice Stevens is one of the people I have most admired in my lifetime. It was surprising to me when I read his words at the time of the issuance of the 2000 per curian decision by the Supreme Court to learn he was a Republican. This man is cut from the same cloth as Al Gore, both of whom are people who put love of country and respect for the rule of law above mere politics. A rare breed in today's times.

I don't believe any on the list retain any of their integrity.
The ghouls and zombies running the administration will not let a good person get a stephold. So in essence, they are a dead party.
Oh, justice Stevens perhaps, Jeffords or Chafee.
Ah also Lou Dobbs has a glimmer of humanity from time to time. And David Brock who was blinded by the right and is now regaining sight.
