Guardian article from 2002: US holds up anti-torture agreement
I was looking back at an old page I maintained during the Afghanistan campaign called No More Blood and I found this link to a piece from the Guardian:

We were worried about international oversight at Guantanamo a year before the Iraq war started. Could it be that we already knew we had something to hide? Naaaaaaaaaaah.

I started it right after September 11 so it's an interesting stroll down memory lane. You can see a lot of the groundwork for things like Abu Ghraib being laid early.
