Cafferty about to punch Hemmer?
Edited on Tue May-25-04 07:11 AM by Atman
Did you see that last CNN segment? Curmudgeon Cafferty gave his report, and read all the e-mails about how terrible things have gotten. When he finishes his segment, Bill Hemmer literally leans over, pointing in Jack's face...."What about all the good things they're doing? When will Bush talk about that? Will the next five speeches be about all the good we've done? What about the story about the prisoners who got their hands and arms cut off...we've sent to them to America for the best medical coverage available!"

Jack was literally speechless. He tried to rebut, almost as if he wanted to say "You stupid fucking asshole, did you hear a word I just said?" Soledad calmly patted Jack on the back, telling him to calm down, while Hemmer chided him.

Get those fucking kids off the anchor desk and put in someone who has a historical clue! Christ, I can't stand the old fart, but I think Jack Cafferty should take over the main anchor seat. At least he can begin to admit when he's been hoodwinked!

1. Wow, things are bad if Cafferty's the best one!
Sounds like Hemmer was repeating the RNC script. I heard it in person from someone the other day -- someone I was surprised to find was a Republican, and even more surprised to find saying such stupid things.

Her: "We don't know everything that's going on over there."
Me: "That's true."
Her: "So there are alot of great things we're doing there, positive things, building things, and we don't hear about that."

As IF they're hiding all these Great Things, and never hid anything horrible...

5. they bitch about Moore's movie, why don't they make their own
it begs the question, doesn't it? Why doesn't Bush Inc. make a slick propaganda flick about all the wonderful things we are doing in Iraq? me thinks it would be laughed out of town.

14. Someone needs to explain to these morons...
... that if you car's transmission has shredded you tend to not talk about its great windshield and taillights.

3. He was pissed yesterday
But the Young Republicans shut him down. I think there's real tension there.

7. Ihave asked and asked
the very question that Hemmer alludes to...what are the good things that are being done in Iraq and Afghanistan? Does anyone know? It's harped on by every Republican, but I have never heard anything specific on what all those "good" things are.

9. A few of us have posted threads
about that issue on DU asking where is all of this rebuilding that's supposed to be happening?

Where are the pictures of all these new and rebuilt schools and hospitals? Where are the pictures of all the construction sites and/or people working and trucks hauling materials?

So far no one around here has been able to come up with much in the way of evidence that Iraq is being rebuilt. There is nothing, nada, zip. I scan Yahoo and Google picture libraries on a regular basis. I have seen no pictures of any major rebuilding going on anywhere in Iraq. All I see are pictures of more and more destruction.

BTW: Welcome to DU. :hi:

10. There IS no "major rebuilding" of any civilian assets
No schools, no hospitals...the $87b we were told was for "rebuilding Iraq" was ALL -- 100% -- for military and industry (read: Bush contributors). It is being used to rebuild the port and the oil pipelines. Private contractors got no-bid contracts to do schools and hospitals, but they all left. NOTHING has been rebuilt for the Iraqi people, only for the US Corporations.

17. I don't think the reporters can leave their bunkers to
report on all the "good things" because they would be blown up by an RPG or a roadside bomb.

BTW, from what I hear, the "all the good things" work has basically stopped because of all the violence. The workers can't get any work done.

The whole thing is sooooo screwed up from start to finish.

4. IMHO, Hemmer's comments were very much tongue-in-cheek ...
... if anything, he was mocking what Jack would have normally been expected to say (and has said in the past) ... time for more coffee here on my end, and waiting to hear Wes Clark on NBC's Today show (another half hour yet) ... let's have a real breath of fresh air! :silly:

11. I don't view Hemmer's comments as tongue and cheek
but then I have never liked him. He must have known someone to get his position there.

He's been blatantly supporting Bush from the start. Overtly so.

13. I heard those talking points yesterday
They flew in a couple of Irackees into TX to get them fitted for prosthetic devices. Saddam had cut them off.

Everyone forgets that Iraq had schools and water and Stuff before W* busted up everything.

16. Saw the same thing with the two of them yesterday........
Jack was reading one e-mail after another slamming Bush and made the comment that he isn't exactly getting any e-mails saying Bush is doing a great job. Hemmer snarled and said that "tonight" (meaning last night) the president will explain all, etc. Jack about went for his throat. Solidad was looking at someone off camera who apparently didn't like Jack's remarks, etc. Today I sensed Jack wanted to kill because he wanted to have the CNN question: What did you think of asshole's speech? but instead he was stuck with what should we do with the prison building. I sensed he wanted to explode. Hemmer must be one of the love objects of someone in the Bush administration---bend and spread Bill, bend and spread...........
