with all of the mixed relationships in the u.s., people are much more openminded than they used to be. at least, that's how i see it here in california. my entire family is intercultural, and i'm raising my own biracial child.

but i agree that there still are lots and lots of racists.

I, too, am in an interracial (and international and intercultural) relationship; my art mentor is a Morrocan muslim; I hang out with a lot of people of differing religions and races from a wide variety of countries and even areas within the US.

But I certainly can't claim that I don't have the occasional racist thought, no matter how much I strive not to because I see the importance of not doing so. But as a human, I stumble and fail and my emotions (especailly anger) sometimes get the better of me and a racist thought creeps in.

That's why I'm surprised, that so many people think they aren't racist.

If the question had been "Do you strive not to be racist", that's one thing. But in all honesty, I think we need to be honest with ourselves and realize that a non-racist person is a pretty rare thing.

I am aware that others are of different races/cultures etc.. but I don't treat them differently than myself because of it. That's what the real problem is - discrimination or treating others differently because of race.
