CNN: "the president's speeches have a very short shelf life"...
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/05/21/bush.iraq/index.html

An easily-ovelooked gem of a quote in this article on Bush's upcoming speech:

"While acknowledging there's little the administration can do about the bad news, the aides said they believe they can try to reassure Americans by using the bully pulpit.

"We've learned -- with so much happening on the ground -- the president's speeches have a very short shelf life, and he needs to be out speaking at this critical time as often as possible," one senior Bush official said.

"He will also be cautioning the public there will be difficult days because of the nature of the enemy."

SO...if he repeats himself "as often as possible" it will get us through these critical times?

Sounds...almost...like...he...wants...to..HYPNOTIZE...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

3. Short shelf life
Means they spoil and smell bad when exposed to the light?

7. I missed that part too!
"They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are, but
they are never the ones to fight or to die." Lives in the balance

4. The more often the FratBoy Fuhrer appears on tv, the more likely...
...people will switch to something else. The same behavior is seen when a bad weekly tv show is first introduced...people watch it the first time, and that's it.

5. Bush's speeches have a short shelf life because he is a terrible
speaker. Whether you like Reagan or not, everyone remembers his "tear down that wall" speech. He was a good speaker. (I choose Reagan to show that it isn't only Dems who can be good speakers--even if he disagree with what they say.)
Does anyone remember anything Bush said after Sept 11? The only thing I can think of is his comment about hunting them down in fox holes or some stupid cowboy like remark of that sort. His speeches following that event should have had a lasting quote that we can all recall and say, "oh yeah, he said this."

6. "he needs to be out speaking ...as often as possible"
Yes! I agree wholeheartedly with this. After his last press conference "triumph" I have been hoping that he will be on the TV more and more!

It's comedy gold!

8. 24/7 he needs to speak all the time...... every day every hour, every
nanosecond. Thats his only hope of recovery. Thats how to reverse the course, Bush needs more exposure.

9. And a lot more unscripted stuff, too
Bush needs to get out there and say what's on his mind, in his own words, exactly as he thinks it, at evey opportunity! (That would be a major contribution towards getting the correct election result!)

10. Huh? Bush has been giving the same speech for three years now!
Are they kidding?

Desiderius Erasmus on the Oratory of George W.

In particular however it will help in avoiding tautologia, that is, the repetition of a word or phrase, an ugly and offensive fault. It often happens that we have to say the same thing several times. If in these circumstances we find ourselves destitute of verbal riches and hesitate, or keep singing out the same old phrase like a cuckoo, and are unable to clothe our thought in other colors or other forms, we shall look ridiculous when we show ourselves to be so tongue-tied, and we shall also bore our wretched audience to death. (De Copia I.8)

11. Lolo is as Lolo does: Bush is a Stepford Prez programed by the
Pub Masters to whom he is handcuffed.
