Screwed up ATM machines.....made by ......

Twice this week, I have encountered malfunctioning ATM machines. Both times, the same problem. First, they wouldn't read my card, then wouldn't accept my PIN, then wouldn't give me any cash in spite of me running a balance check on that very machine that verified more than adequete funds in my account. Finally, after trying 5-6 times, I'd get some cash. now these weren't old, beat up ATM's, they were virtually brand-new shiny machines. I wasn't the only one having trouble either, everyone trying to use them was having the same trouble.

When I looked at the machines to see who the manufacturer was, you guessed it. DIEBOLD!!!!!

I took the opportunity to talk to the other disgruntled people trying to use these machines to inform them that Diebold is making the new voting machines many voters will be using in November. Disgusted looks all around, and some voicing seroius concerns. None of them wanted * elected.

One older gentleman said "if they can't make an ATM that works, why should people trust their votes to them?"

1. You did get a printed receipt didn't you?
I can't see how they can say that the technology isn't there to print a receipt from a voting machine.

If that cash machine can generate a paper trail, why can't the voting machines?

3. I voted this week..
The ladies had a machine there. It read the ballot via computer, but also produces a paper trail, in addition to the original ballot you fill out. Pierce County, Washington has these machines.. and the voting ladies there are quite proud of them. They leave a trail. I have no problem with votes being scanned and tallied by computer, because there is a paper trail in the print outs for them at each precinct, AND the original ballots. I have absolute zero trust in touch screen voting... You can program a computer like that to record one thing and print out another.. a receipt is meaningless, really. You can program those machines to reject every 5th Kerry vote, or have it go to Nader... yet still reflect a Kerry vote. These systems were shoved down our throats in a hurry, by the GOP and Bush supporting contractors... I'm more convinced every single day that THIS is how the election will be stolen this time. And it will be stolen, you all know that, right? That's why the polls show Kerry ahead in every way except straight who will win polls... we're being set up.. no more exit polling. etc..

4. I once asked for $80 and got $20 from an ATM
and the receipt said I had been given $80. My bank did credit my account anyway when I complained.

5. See http://www.wheresthepaper.org/
You want more than a "paper trail". You want a Voter Verified Paper Ballot created by the machine. You want to know that what's on the paper has been verified by the voter before they left the voting station.

http://www.wheresthepaper.org/

This is a good site to actually demonstrate what can happen with a "touch screen" voting machine when there's no Voter Verified Paper Ballot.

7. Is there a chance that these
machines had been doctored by some enterprising thief specifically to steal your ATM card number and PIN? I've heard of it happening. Do complain bitterly to whoever seems to be responsible for that machine at that location: bank, mall, whatever.
