Stephen Cambone -- despised by the military brass
I ran across this statement in an article by Sidney Blumenthal on Gen. Boykin, the religious nut, concerning Boykin's boss, Stephen Cambone (of PNAC fame):

Boykin was the action hero side of his boss, Stephen Cambone, a conservative defense intellectual appointed to the new post of undersecretary of intelligence. Cambone is universally despised by the officer corps for his arrogant, abrasive and dictatorial style and regarded as the personal symbol of Rumsfeldism. A former senior Pentagon official told me of a conversation with a three-star general, who remarked: "If we were being overrun by the enemy and I had only one bullet left, I'd use it on Cambone."

2. What an amazing quote!!
I have a feeling the uniformed people feel that way about most of the neocons at the Pentagon.

4. Douglas Feith ain't too popular with the brass either. . .
especially not with Gen. Tommy Franks, who, according to Bob Woodward in his book Plan of Attack, called Feith "...the f**king stupidest guy on the face of the earth..."

...are creating an ad hoc network of true believers (members of the movement, party people, totalitarians) permeating the Pentagon and other government agencies. These are people who do not believe in the rule of law and do not follow the formal chain of command. Their network aims at achieving policy goals by forming ancilliary networks of command, which operate outside the law and circumvent career institutional leadership, policy, and traditions in accordance with the totalitarian model, outlined in Hannah Arendt's The Origins of Totalitarianism.

The proliferation of rightest policy wonk think tanks and other bogus corporate fronts in the private sector entirely for the purpose of propagandizing the population with rightest/corporatist bullet points foreshadowed the medusa like corruption of the formal federal structure. Concentration of media power, intimidation of journalists, and the concurrent metamorphosis of news into right wing bullet points repeated ad nauseum have created the most effective fascist propaganda machine.

The ancilliary networks operate secretly, covertly or by word of mouth, while operating in the force or coercive mode, to leave no evidence, and use intelligence agents with pseudonyms and covers, nameless corporate contractors to escape accountability, and when necessary terrorists to achieve the conditions necessary for the success of their regime and its lawless policies.

Congress and the Justice department have already created the legal loopholes necessary for totalitarianism to flourish.

Taking a Closer Look at the Patriot Act
Where Are You Heading, America?
By BRIAN CLOUGHLEY

<snip>
<The USA Patriot Act also restricts personal liberty "beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed". Every provision of the 1933 Protection of Nation and State Decree, save that of speech and press freedom, is mirrored in the Patriot Act which permits investigators, without having to show "probable cause", to obtain a subpoena to search anyone"s personal details held by their library, bank, credit card and insurance companies " in fact by any organisation or institution that keeps records.>

<This is Orwell"s Big Brother at work " but the Act is relished by those who advocate more and more state supervision and investigation of the private lives of ordinary US citizens. The Ashcroft Act (as it should be named) is accepted and even welcomed by countless millions of Americans who are kept totally unaware of its terms.><snip>

<Hitler relied on the discipline that is instilled in all soldiers to ensure that their loyalty centered on him, and him alone. In an uncanny replay of history, the 21st Century US military is being manipulated through its members" instinctive patriotic feelings to believe that it is Bush and only Bush who can save the nation from unknown horrors. The strategy is identical : link patriotism and religiosity with the loyalty of gullible people who are inherently deferential to authority, or have been encouraged to be so, and you have the recipe for power, especially over those who know nothing about the outside world.>

<It is terrifying that millions of down-to-earth, ordinary, decent people in the US believe that torture of Iraqis is permissible and even admirable, because of "what happened on 9-11".>
