RW radio ad - 'We're sick of liberals and democrats attacking US holy war'
This (or something very close to it) is a quote from Michael Delgiorno; on M and T (and probably every day) it was used as a promo ad on Tulsa's very own 1170am KFAQ.

It was the 2nd part of a quote in which he urges people to call the Tulsa County Democratic Party Chairwoman (he gave a phone number, it may have been her home phone number) and complain about a petition censoring Inhofe for his remarks defending torture and 'just 6 or 7 bad apples.'

Delgiorno spends a lot of time M-F 5:30am to 9am 'explaining' to listeners that Muslims are out to destroy US and that Iraq and war on terrorism is US, 'christianity's' justifiable war of self-defense against Islam.

2. there are a lot of moderate republicans who would be very offended by
the term "holy war"....
I am not sure about OK but in PA we have an even split in the republican party ...half rockefeller repubs...half right-wing bible thumpers....

6. there are still too many people who don't grasp...
that religeous fundamentalists are in high positions of power here in the US, and they'll happily grab as much power as they can.

I found myself explaining to my wife the other day about those comments by Gen. Boykin, and she was amazed. Her comment was something like "doesn't he understand that that's not acceptable?"

No. They don't understand. Not only do they not understand, but their goal is to take over our country and try to force that kind of thinking down our throats.

3. did they really call it a "holy war"?
In a way, it would be refreshing to see them come out and admit it.

10. This putz is a new one to me...
but there's so many of them that they seem to grow like mushrooms.

Or weeds.

Anyway, I googled him, and found this:

Apparently, this kind of weed is fairly common.

11. "Last time religion ruled the world it was called the Dark Ages"-bumper
sticker of a car in my neighborhood in N.C. The nearby Mennonite church had a sign reading "an eye for an eye and we all go blind" during the weeks just preceding and during the start of the Iraq War last year. (They need to put up that one again!) I noticed Democratic bumper stickers on cars at the nearby Methodist church last Sunday.

Gives me hope that many Americans don't agree with this right wing holy war B.S. trying to justify a most unholy war.

13. I'm seeing more and more of this on message boards
Edited on Fri May-21-04 03:00 PM by missb
I frequent a few different messageboards. Two of the boards have primarily women members. The more conservative Christian members have been blaming the liberal media for putting our soldiers in danger for showing the prisoner abuse pictures.

Several women have said that they aren't bothered by the abuse, because what the other side does is far worse. As an atheist, I am absolutely astounded. I cannot wrap my mind around the various mental contortions they must do to reconcile their faith with the pictures of the abuses.

I don't listen to right-wing radio. Perhaps I should, if only to check to see exactly what they are saying. It sounds as if the rightwing is raising the hatred to a new level.

edited to correct a word

15. I have noticed that atheist behave more the way
Christians should if they followed Christ. I see more compassion, humanity, caring, and hope among atheists I know than I do from Christians. Isn't it ironic?

16. Absolutely
And I have been tempted to point that out on at least one message board, where it is known that I am an atheist. According to many of them, I am an immoral creature (as an atheist).

Go figure.

17. one reason
Because we treat people as if this life is all there is. Belief in an afterlife allows for all sorts of unhealthy double-think. It can cause some people to de-value this life.

But not all people. That's important to remember.
