Question on CSPAN's Washington Journal: Is US the greatest nation?
:eyes:

I heard only one caller from Columbus, MD, challenge the idea that any nation could be the greatest. The rest, on every line, one after another: yes, yes, yes, yes, yes...

1. Q: Is that the loaded-est question that they could think of?
Brian Lamb should be ashamed of himself. He knows that the question is BS.

2. Yeah, he should first ask how many people have
travelled outside their own state first. Then ask them how they would know if it is the greatest country. Then ask them why. Their answers will be things like "freedom" "democracy" "country music", etc.

Well, other than crappy country music, lots of other nations have freedom and democracy. Nitwits.

3. I wonder which other county's citizens ask themselves such
idiotic questions - a lot of other populations are proud of their country and heritage but it seems that we are the ones obsessed by whether we are the greatest - so fucking what....if the greatest nation can kill innocent people for power and profit - how 'great' can it be......

4. If we were ever the greatest country, those days are over.

5. That depends on what the definition of great is.
If it's might, then yes.
If it's compassion, then no.
But since I believe that might is not right, I should probably find another place to live.

7. The answers to most questions have to be qualifed...

We destroyed/nearly destroyed the home and culture of the natives of this continent. Not great.

We did not provide rights to women and black and hated group after group of emigres and we worked children. Not great.

Then we had some good guys write a superior constitution and bill of rights.

Then we didn't have leaders who interpreted the constitution and the bill fairly. Not great.

Then we were blessed with good neighbors and two grand oceans separating us from the problems elsewhere in the world.

Then while good people built the country with their sweat because of the dream afforded by the constitution and the bill of rights, we also went the route of wars and weapons.

Because of our sweat, we were able to provide aid all over the world.

But, then our leaders contrived with other leaders in some countries for monetary and control purposes.

Many of our leaders make us not so great.

Modern day corporate and military nonsense and the breeding of killers and the killer mentality make us not so great.

The hypocrisy of saying we're great while our people go uneducated and uninsured and without homes and our jobs are shipped out without any taxes coming in makes us not so great.

We do not have a cabinet member whose job is Secretary of Peace.

Our leaders do not have a peace mentality. Not so great.
