Zell Miller on Iraqi prisoners: "Get This Thing in Perspective"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,120462,00.html

Alan Colmes interviews Miller on "Hannity & Colmes"...

"MILLER: Well, I say get this thing in perspective. Goodness, look at what happened to Daniel Pearl (search). He was beheaded. Look what happened to Nicholas Berg. He was beheaded.

Look at what happened to those civilians who were mutilated and dragged through the streets and hanged on bridges.

Look at those people who jumped out of the World Trade Center back on 9/11.

Look at all those kind of atrocities. There's no comparison whatsoever. And I'm not going to join with you, Alan, in being a member of the handwringers' association.

COLMES: I'm not hand wringing, sir. I think there's no moral equivalency between what happened between, you know, the beheading -- or Daniel Pearl or Nicholas Berg. I'm not playing the moral equivalency game. But I've heard people...

MILLER: Nobody dies from humiliation."

1. "Nobody dies from humiliation"
Miller and Colmes should consider themselves lucky that few die from embarrassment.

2. Yeah, we all know argument...
What we do is less bad, and we always have a justification (no matter how twisted); conclusion we are good they are evil. When will we move beyond this and look inside ourselves as opposed to point fingers at everyone else - and then we wonder why we hate them!?!?

5. Yes, the "Hannity Logic"...
...on "Hannity & Colmes" yesterday, Hannity's response to Nancy Pelosi's comments about Bush was "why did John Kerry lie about owning SUVs? Why did he brag about owning one in Detroit and lie and cover it up later?" He then went on to say that the solution to the current high gas prices would be for Kerry's wife to give up her private jet, while guest Ann Coulter chimed in with the suggestion that Kerry should consider less expensive haircuts.

4. Wrong again, Stupid!
Of course people die from the Iraqi prisoners' humiliation. It will be Americans, because the repercussions from this will go on and on, with more and more attacks against American. Make no mistake, we're truly hated now. Thus does our illustrious pretzeldent keep the peace.

Also, why the HELL can't these idiots see that just because Americans have been mistreated we can do the same. We're always hearing that we're the "good guys," but then we justify retaliation of the worst kind. Jeez, what an asshole.

As dumb as Dumbya and lots of other rethugs, of course, although that's a rhetorical question.

7. I read a great quote the other day...
"The violence with which the supremacy of white values is affirmed and the aggressiveness which has permeated the victory of these values means that, in revenge, the native laughs in mockery when western values are mentioned in front of him." Frantz Fanon

8. I see Miller's been reading his Republican Talking Points Handbook...
"Look at those people who jumped out of the World Trade Center back on 9/11."
How many times do they have to mention Iraq and 9/11 in the same talking point?

I wonder if he got it autographed by * himself?

Hmmm, I wonder if Zell and other Republican idiots know that the bombs we dropped indiscriminately all over Iraq mutilated and maimed hundreds of thousands.

11. Yes Zell. Let's do get this in perspective.
we just had a photo yesterday of a little girl with her head blown off. What did she do to you to deserve such a fate? Was her Daddy a terrorist? Was she in any way connected to the attack on our country? If not, then how in the world - in all your convoluted rationalizations - can you talk about putting this into "perspective".

To start to put it into perspective, we have to start with the argument about whether we were right or wrong to invade a country that was not a threat to us and did not attack us, yet you seem to think that it is perfectly OK for us to be there and anyone killed by us, right or wrong, is simply collateral damage. Your perspective is flawed, Mr Miller. It is flawed because your basic premise is flawed. No matter how much humanitarian aid or assistance we might give to the orphans of a war we did not have to fight, does not make us on the right side, not does it put it in "perspective".

14. Zell wins the award . . .
Edited on Fri May-21-04 09:08 AM by Jack Rabbit

The Red Herring Award

awarded to
Senator Zell Miller (R-GA)
May 21, 2004

Sorry, Zell. Their brutality does not justify ours. Yes, the crimes of which you speak are horrendous and should be punished and punished severely. That in no way mitigates the magnitude of the crimes at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo or secret prisons in Afghanistan; it in no way excuses the US from outsourcing torture to countries like Syria and Egypt with less than stellar human rights records. Each atrocity stands on its own.

18. Miller hasn't seen the smiling girl next to the corpse, then?
He died. That's why you can't dismiss this as 'humiliation', or even 'abuse'.

In Britain there's a process known as 'withdrawing the whip', by which a parliamentary party temporarily expels a member of parliament for something hateful they've said or done. Can't the Democrats do this, for god's sake? This man seems more right wing than most Republican senators.
