Poll question: Nick Berg video--how many have seen it?
I haven't seen it, and don't intend to, and I was wondering how DUers split on it.

1. Fortunately
there was a lot of warning about the content of the video so I was able to exercise my right to "informed consent" by NOT seeing the video.

2. Watched it...
I think he was already dead when they beheaded him... I primarily watched it to form my own opinion on this matter after reading many accounts of the inconsistencies (time stamp, blood volume...)

Yes, I found it horrific... but far less so than I would have anticipated.

Chose not to. Just wanted to get a sense of the situation without seeing the act.

5. I am the most squeamish person I know or have ever heard of..
Edited on Mon May-17-04 04:32 PM by Kahuna
I can't stand the sight of anything icky. Or the sight of pain and injury. I cover my eyes at the movies when anything with blood, injury or guts is shown. I put my fingers in my ears if a person is screaming from being tortured. I'm a total wuss. :eyes:

9. I'm a wuss too.
Can't stand to see someone or ANIMALS experience pain!

A site for the tortures was posted here on DU. I chose not to watch. I didn't watch Passion for the same reason.

6. Didn't for two reasons, selfish and un
Selfish reason was that many had advised that the horrendous images and especially sounds were unforgettable; I didn't want my memory polluted with them. The unselfish reason is that I put myself in Berg's position, and figured he wouldn't want people to watch it.

10. I'm With You on This...
I wouldn't want someone to watch my gruesome demise, so I choose not to watch Berg's. It's a matter of respect for another human being, although I hold no grudge for those who choose to watch for "investigative" purposes.

19. Good for you.
Berg's family seemed even more overcome at the idea that there was a video showing his death... the idea that millions of people could see something so personal.

I didn't watch it, and yet I was disturbed for many nights with images and thoughts of what he went through. I can only hope that it's true, he was dead before that happened. I can't bear to think of it beign otherwise.

7. Watched it in its entirety
after reading many comments about it beforehand.

I am glad I did. I now know that the "live" beheading was a lie.

8. I was skeptical at first...
but curiosity got the best of me...now I'm not so sure I should have watched it...let's just say that it bothered me for a few days...

I must say though...some of the threads that were started about the inconsistencies were a bit interesting to read...

14. There's really no point in watching it
Edited on Mon May-17-04 05:57 PM by 0rganism
There are quite a few detailed descriptions and analyses you can review if you want; you're better off reading those instead. It isn't worth your time, it's four minutes of ranting in Arabic followed by a useless snuff scene. If you speak fluent Arabic, you might get something out of the first part.

15. Of those who watched it
How many of you have ever actually seen and felt a person killed violently and dismembered. That doesn't require that you witnessed an act of individual violence as was Berg's beheading. Just that you were actually in adequate proximity to get blood on you and smell it. That you actually saw the whole thing happen. Personal witness to a grisly accident counts.

I have. I don't care to watch the video.

20. My take exactly
Having seen some of the chechen beheading videos, I have to say that the Berg video left me with more of a "Something ain't right with that" feeling than anything else.

17. Three times, all the way through the 5.8MB video.
It's a black ops job. Berg was dead when the beheading was video'd.

18. The day I watch that is the day I check my humanity at the door.
America is so sick. Our "entertainment" now is so graphically violent that I suppose watching another human beheaded is just like watching the movies. Something like that would have literally killed people to watch only 20 years ago. How we have fallen.

It's caterpillar season here.. and they're everywhere.. though other people are killing them routinely, I cannot bear to kill one.. I've been relocating each one I find. Who cares about my plants. I NEVER want to be able to watch something like the Berg killing, or even a Tarentino movie, if I can.. then I know I've lost my humanity.

24. 2 people have told me they watched it and greatly regretted it
I'm not squeamish (I watched a lot of horror flicks as a kid) but I never want to see something like that; not even to see if it looks like it was faked. My best friend, a police officer who has seen plenty of violence and blood, watched it and was horrified.

If I'm going to look at a video online, it's going to be of the Victoria's Secret girls or maybe a baseball clip on the Major League website. And frankly if we all did no more than that the world would be a better place. The fact the video is all over the web being downloaded by "Faces of Death" fans is almost as nauseating to me as the actual concept of the video itself. Whoever filmed this thing, whether it was really Al-Qaeda or not, WANTS you to watch it. They want you to be sickened, scared, angry, etc. If not for the sake of taste and dignity, I figure why play along and do their bidding.
