Bush Renews Call to Ban Gay Marriage

ASSOCIATED PRESS

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -

President Bush on Monday renewed his call for Congress to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages.

Bush said in a statement, "The sacred institution of marriage should not be redefined by a few activist judges."

Bush said that "all Americans have a right to be heard in this debate."

Noting that he had called on Congress some time ago to pass a constitutional amendment banning such marriages, Bush said "the need for that amendment is still urgent, and I renew that call today."

12. DId he have his arm around Fred Phelps?
What a stupid place to make that stupid statement.

I think that this wedge issue is going to flop with a mighty thud.

Why should a candidate have to explain his support of civil rights?

11. bush can't win with just his fundie base...
that's why he is trying the "compassionate conservative" shtick again. He needs moderate repubs and independents and this issue won't do it.

14. the high road of republicans
Food for thought:

*Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Reagan who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.

*Bob Dole- divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through the long recovery from his war wounds.

*Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.

*Dick Armey - House Majority Leader - divorced

*Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced

*Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced

*Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced

*George Will - divorced

*Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced

*Rush Limbaugh- Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and four divorces between them.

*Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times. Barr had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Marriage Act." The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?!?

*Sen. Alfonse D'Amatoof New York - divorced

*Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced (once married to Liz Taylor.)

*Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced

*Henry Kissinger- divorced

*Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced

*Sen. John McCain of Arizonia - divorced

*Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced

*Rep. Susan Molinari of New York - Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker - divorced

Destroying the marriage myth. Gays aren't doing it The Christian Republicans are doing a fine job without anyone's help!

16. You know, since gay marriage started last night
my spouse and I have been at each other's throats. We've turned abusive, pulled weapons on each other, called each other nasty names, started several illicit affairs, neglected our children, and started "swinging" with disease-filled couples. You know, the rightwing was right! Gay marriage really DOES destroy "real" marriage!

<sarcasm off> :eyes:
