No I haven't actually voted in that.

This was actually the third story this morning on the Today Show. Seems that dialers are having a hard time getting in, text messagers have better success, votes may be rigged by auto-dialers who may have BET on American Idol on-line, AND there could be hacking involved.

Seriously this is actually a news story. I sure hope Bev Harris's head doesn't explode over this.

Who would bet on something as manipulator as a televised popularity contest?

There was no tie-in to gee I don't know OUR DEMOCRATIC PROCESS??????--the 2000 and 2002 votes? BBV?

This is this week's sign of the apocalypse as far as I am concerned.

Los Angeles-AP -- A report says Fox T-V is alienating "American Idol" viewers who have been trying unsuccessfully to phone-in their votes.
Broadcasting and Cable magazine says many would-be voters are being shut out by overburdened phone lines.
And they're competing with the "power dialers" -- the callers with the technology to beat the system.

1. I thought the same thing this morning....
My wife was only half listening to the segment on the Today show but when I remarked that I'd like to see them devote this much of a segment to the irregularities in our national electoral process, she said "Wait a minute...you mean that's not what they are talking about here?" When I confirmed that the segment was indeed about American Idol and not American President she was just completely flabergasted.

2. Okay on this anniversary of Brown v. Board the irony can't be missed

People are upset (and should be) because two black women got voted off BUT no one is all that upset that black people (and those in poor areas) have to roll the dice and hope that their vote is counted for the President of their country and leader of the world's only superpower.

Simply unbelieveable.

3. Yeah, But Don't You Think
People will make that connection anyway?

Isn't it possible that, as stupid as it sounds, the vote on American Idol can serve as a metaphor for Election Day in November? That this will make people understand the dangers better than trying to explain BBV and Diebold to them?
