No Way Does Kerry/McCain get MY vote.
I am Mr. ABB, okay? So much so that I would have held my nose and voted for Lieberman, whom I detest, if he had become the Democratic nominee.

What's more, I VOTED for McCain here in California in the repuke primary in 2000. I actually LIKE McCain, to be honest, although I disagree with most of his politics. His speech in Virginia Beach chastising Robertson and Falwell was one of the highlights of a very dark political season.

But the very idea of Kerry picking McCain as his running mate is revolting to me. What that choice would say to me is, "Gee, I just can't find ONE DEMOCRAT worthy of the slot." I tend to believe that those of you who say "it'll never happen" are right. I sure hope so. But if there are any Kerry staffers reading this, mark my words: I will stay home in November if he picks McCain. The current Republican Party needs to be swept into the dustbin of history, not rescued by the democrats. Fuck that!

I propose a simple rule: If you've vocally supported the Bush administration over and over again, despite all the evidence of malfeasance and evil right in front of your face, you don't get to be on the Democratic ticket!

/rant.

3. This party needs a revival dammit!
We should be proud that we are not Republicans! We should not feel a need to patch things up with people who despise us until they come forth to bury the hatchet.

6. Howard Dean had the courage you speak of
Edited on Sun May-16-04 10:19 PM by DaveSZ
We need more people like Dean in the Democratic Party.

I also like McCain, but he's too conservative to have as the VP.

13. yeah no kidding
and the Republicans need more people like McCain. He can keep his conservative beliefs, I like the guy because he is his own man. He's nobody's bitch, least of all the establishment. That's why he'll never make it to any presidential ticket, neither will Dean. Dean's DFA group is on the right track trying to make a difference from the local level with grass roots campaigns.

7. I find it amazing that

people would actually be naive enough to not vote for Kerry. The most evil administration in American history occupies the White House and people can stare that Satan-like evil in the face and actually say they will vote in such a way that Bush can get elected. What the hell are people thinking?

The chances of McCain on the ticket are between infinitely slim and absolutely none. But its really telling to see people putting conditions on getting Bush out of the White House.

9. No, you're absolutely right. I take it all back.
Your point is well taken. Such is my loathing of this administration that I'd probably end up pulling the lever for a Kerry/Attila the Hun ticket.

17. I'm sure Attila would attract some Bush voters
and turn a few red states :)

I'd vote for Kerry/Anybody, too, even though I agree we've got plenty of talent in our own party and McCain would send a signal of desperation and low morale. I think Kerry's smart enough, and the whole brouhaha just helps swing voters accept him.

19. I'd pull the lever for a Barney the Dinosaur/Big Bird ticket over Bush
But I won't have to, because they won't be on it.

And neither will McCain, so we can all just RELAX about it now and move on to more pertinent issues.

15. oh stop with the boogey man scare tatics
we all know how bad bush is. But Kerry even considering a repug on the ticket is the last straw for many people. I have never voted for a republican and I don't intend to start in Nov.

10. McCain will NOT be on the ticket!
http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aOU7ULWGnxyE&refer=top_world_news

May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Republican Senator John McCain ``categorically'' ruled out running for vice president with Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in November.

``I've said categorically -- categorically -- I will not be vice president of the United States,'' McCain said on NBC's ``Meet the Press'' program today.

McCain, 67, of Arizona, has repeatedly denied any interest in serving as Kerry's running mate against President George W. Bush, a Republican whom McCain challenged for the party's nomination in 2000. McCain was responding to a report in the New York Times on Saturday that cited an unidentified Democratic Party official as saying Kerry ``continues to be interested'' in him.

``I'm a loyal Republican,'' McCain said today. ``I am supporting President Bush's re-election.''

16. Bingo!
All this fuss over something an "unidentified Democratic Party official" supposedly said, while McCain categorically denies that he'll be on the ticket and continues to stump for Chimpy.

21. Exactly
What's more, like so many other things that have happened in the last 3 1/2 years, it's like suddenly EVERYONE in the media was talking about McCain on the ticket-before an announcement, or a suggestion, or anything. It's kind of like someone told them all about it all at once.

11. I see your point.
But to me, McCain represents the very little that is right with politics. He seems to say what he means, and with the exception of stumping for the *ies, he calls a spade a spade.

I disagree with an overwhelming majority of his policies, and would hate to see him on the ticket. But I think it's a good idea for Kerry, as president, to work with rational members of the opposing party like McCain.

And there's no way he'll be VP. No way.

18. Kerry/(anybody including the kitchen sink) gets my vote
1. Because anything is better than Bush.
2. I like McCain
3. Kerry and McCain are good friends
4. I'm not a Democrat
5. That ticket would destroy Bush like an H-bomb.

20. So, to sum up:
(1) "Kerry-McCain" is an infuriating idea on many levels.
(2) Most of us would probably vote for them anyway if the alternative was 4 more years of Bush*-Cheney.
(3) But it's moot, because Kerry-McCain is NOT going to happen.

22. Kerry-McCain wouldn't need your vote.
They'd win by 15 points. Nader might get four percent instead of one, and Chimp would get beaten worse than any incumbent in history.

Guess what? I wouldn't like the ticket either (For different reasons, i bet). I'd vote for it, natch, since Kerry-McCain is better than Chimp-Sneer any day of the week.

Oh. And it isn't going to happen. Fear not.
