Do the neocons have plans for a permanent military base in Iraq?
I've read this from time to time but have never seen a direct quote.

Anyone got any links?

5. One reason for Iraq war was to move troops out of Saudi Arabia
One of the reasons given for invading Iraq was the concept that we could establish bases in Iraq and then pull our troops out of Saudi Arabia. Removing US troops from Saudi Arabia is of course a key demand of Al Qaeda and Bin Laden and the fact that Bush is doing his best to honor such demand is very very strange.

8. Why? Because they own the Bush family.....and are into our economy
to the tune of trillions. Plus they control the oil. They tell Bush to jump...he says "how high"?

9. here's a link to a 5/14/04 BBC article about the pullout
of our troops from Saudi Arabia...

I get the feeling it was becoming politically unteneble for the leadership of the SA.

6. I don't know that the PNAC specifies Iraq

but it certainly talks about the need for "forward deployment"
in the vital economic region of the middle east and other such
terminology.

Basically, the PNAC wants to recognize that the cold war is over
(so no more need for forward deployments in Germany and Korea as a
forward deployment against communist agression... so we need to
reformulate the military for the New American Century (2000 - 2099)
and to plan for American economic and military dominance of the world
in this time period (thus, supposedly, assuring the continued
prosperity and so on).

10. Look at Karen Kwiatkowski's stuff, right here
She mentions it here in this interview, and also at other points in the interview:

Q: What do you believe the real reasons were for the war?

A: The neoconservatives needed to do more than just topple Saddam Hussein. They wanted to put in a government friendly to the U.S., and they wanted permanent basing in Iraq. There are several reasons why they wanted to do that. None of those reasons, of course, were presented to the American people or to Congress.

Then there's her other stuff here:

11. We're going to be in Iraq a long time no matter who's president.
The real problem exposed by 9/11 is the Saudis. Taking Iraq and the oil puts us in an excellent position to pressure the Saudis to do what we want.
