Twenty Reasons Why I Am Voting for Kerry
Edited on Sun May-16-04 04:56 PM by stepnw1f
I don't see any viable reason to vote for Bush at all, but then again I never thought he did anything right before he became President. After being being appointed by the Supreme court as the elected President he has fallen asleep at the wheel during 9/11 proving the people around him were ineffectual in protecting us from a terrorist attack. If that's not enough and you need proof of what he has done that has effected you personally just look at the Budget Deficit. Never in history have we had a worse economy besides the Great Depression.

On top of all the bungling of this president, he has lied and used doctored information to put this country in a war that we did not need to engage in. On top of it, the World has issued war crimes against us, and future generations will have to pay financially because we have lost our credibility even trade partners.

If you want to compare resumes of both Bush and Kerry, they are out there. The result is simple, Kerry wins hands down! Also 30 years in government with the responsibilities he's had shows he has a lot of experience and proves he hasn't fucked things up like Bush did in just 4 years + his governorship in the beleaguered state of Texas.

Anyway, here's 20 reasons to vote for Kerry:
1) He will role back the tax cuts Bush gave to the wealthiest in this country, in-effect balancing the tax burden to all instead of just the middle-class and poor. By the way, the poor need social care if we want to keep people of the street. They won't just go away or get jobs, because most of these people are mentally ill or victims of drug abuse and human abuse. Living and working in the city has given me first hand insight into this dilemma and tough love doesn't resolve this issue, it just makes it worse.

2) A comprehensive plan shows that Kerry's plan will create about 10 million jobs in his first 4 years. To view the difference between Bush's plan and Kerry's: http://www.johnkerry.com/flash/economy_mappopup.html

3) Kerry is from one of the best states when it comes to fiscal responsibility. Best on social issues and civil rights. That's a huge reason because it allows the little guy to compete the the bigger guys on an even playing field.

4) Massachusetts has one of the best education systems in the country. Compare that with Texas... yikes!

5) Masachusett's crime level between Texas and Massachusetts:
Stats: 1st = worst and 50th = best

Total Crime Rate per 100,000 population for 1999
http://db.state.ma.us/msp/NATUCR2a.asp
MA - 3,262.51 (39th)
TX - 5,031.77 (9th) YIKES!!!!

Total Crime Rate per 100,000 for 1998
http://db.state.ma.us/msp/NATUCR2a.asp
MA - 3,435.87 (42nd)
TX - 5,111.65 (15th) yikes!

Total Crime Rate per 100,000 for 1997
http://db.state.ma.us/msp/NATUCR2a.asp
MA - 3,675.19 (41st)
TX - 5,480.51 (16th) yikes!

Total Crime Rate per 100,000 for 1996
http://db.state.ma.us/msp/NATUCR2a.asp
MA - 3,837.13 (40th)
TX - 5,708.92 (15th) yikes!

5) Economic between Texas and Massachusetts:

Massachusetts Rank #1 in 2002 and 1999!!!
Texas Rank #14 in 2002 and #17 in 1999

6) Unemployment Rankings:

1996: http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/state10.prn
MA - 4.3% (38th)
TX - 5.6% (14th)

2002:
MA - 5.3% (29th)
TX - 6.3% (9th) YIKES!!!

7) The Environment
John Kerry's environmental record trumps George Bush's.
Texas as most know has one of the worst records on the environment while John's state seems to have done very well. Even more so Bush had the EPA remove warnings of Global Warming from the record, stating that carbon dioxide is ok for people and the environment. While this is true in a natural environment, human and man-made carbon dioxide is seriously harmful.

“Throughout an E.P.A. draft of the proposed regulations circulated in November, a White House staff member crossed out the word "confirmed" from the phrase describing mercury as a "confirmed public health risk." In some instances, sentences in the final proposals were changed to mercury "warrants regulation. In another case, a toxicologist with the Office of Management and Budget recommended changes to a sentence saying children exposed to mercury in the womb "are at increased risk of poor performance on neurobehavioral tests." The final sentence that was published said children "may be at increased risk.’”

While John fought companies to clean up their own messes, George Bush loosened regulations that kept companies from emitting and dumping toxins into our environment.

8) Although John does not have a record on foreign policy I will say he'd probably do a much better job than Bush. You just cannot afford to work without big allies and expect small insignificant world players to make a viable alliance. George Bush is one of the worst Presidents when it comes to Foreign Policy. He broke International law by not waiting for the UN to vote on a decision to authorize the Iraqi invasion. There were never any WMD's there prior to our invasion, only in the far past did they exist. More recent invasions eliminated Saddam's ability to manufacture biological and chemical weapons. Instead the Saddam was using USA made chemicals to wipe his own people. In fact Donald Rumsfeld has been known to deal with Saddam on a personal basis, hence the photo of him shaking hands with the 'evil dictator'.

9) Kerry doesn't put his religious views before the law in which he promised to uphold. Bush goes so far as to insert discrimination into the Constitution because of his religious beliefs.

10) Kerry has fought voluntarily in war where as Bush has had his father's influence to keep him from the Vietnam War by placing him ahead of of others into the National Guard. I wonder who was kicked off that list for George?

11) Kerry had the balls to come back from an unjustifiable war to protest it. That takes balls my friend, big-time. In turn he saved lives by helping to end the war! Bush was getting high.

12) The public education in Massachusetts is far better than most of the country. This in turn provides viable resources to those who cannot afford private or parochial educations. George has essentially abandoned his own initiative and in turn cut spending for education.

Bush Shortchanged Own Education Law by $9.4 Billion in 2005. Bush proposed $9.4 billion less for his No Child Left Behind Act than was authorized by the act in his 2005 budget. Bush has shortchanged NCLB by a total of $33.2 billion in his last four budgets.

Bush Terminated Dropout Prevention Programs. Bush cut dropout prevention programs entirely out of his 2005 budget. In explanation of the cut, OMB called the programs “unnecessary,” saying that other funding was available for this purpose.

Bush Trying to Eliminate Reading Program Backed By His Mother

Bush Wants to End Literacy Program Supported By Barbara Bush Foundation

George Bush is once again misleading America: he’s in Maryland talking about his efforts to promote literacy, but the fact is that his Administration has tried to eliminate key programs meant to address literacy problems, including one family reading initiative that is supported by his mother.

13) Protecting the home land: Now here's a major misunderstanding people have when it comes to protection. Talking bravado and sending most of our National guard away from the US creates HUGE security gaps around and within this country. 911 happened on this man's watch and yet we still do not know why NORAD did not receive the order to shoot down those planes. The 911 investigative panel, by the way, was hand picked by Bush and on top of it, he and Cheney were given a free pass on Public testimony Under Oath. Yes the same oath everyone else was put under, even Clinton had to and that was due to a personal sexual affair. What a joke the Republican Party is! An affair is insignificant to 911. Therefore Bush and Cheney should have publicly, individually testify under oath.

Kerry believes we should protect the homeland more and ask Nato and the UN to help in the stabilization process, freeing up soldiers to guard our ports here. That's why we called them the National Guard.

14) Fiscal responsibility. This administration sure spends a lot of our tax money on unjustifiable means. In fact we are borrowing money from other countries just to deal with his inept fiscal policies. Ever wonder why we have had such low interest rates for such a long time. For every job that is created 1 is lost. That means Bush is at this point only breaking even. The stock markets numbers do not illustrate the job market, therefore, the economy is not on the rise. In fact, the market is hovering around 10,000. What if it sinks lower than it's present figure?

Massachusetts seems to be doing well. We've had to cut spending in this state, spending on programs mainly aiding the poor and middle-class. I wonder why?

15) Bush's energy policy is a rotten apple. To start with, Cheney should be indicted for holding secret meetings with the Energy Commission. Even today, lawyers are trying get the White House to release important documents concerning Bush's energy policies. The fact that they are stonewalling is an admission of guilt.

Since Kerry is environmentalist, I would imagine the man would slap stronger regulations on pollution emitting feuls, and would initiate sound plans for energy alternatives. That way we won't have to invade another country and sever ties with Saudi Arabia, home of the Bin Ladens, friends of the Bush family. Oh yeah... who was on the plane that flew from Texas to Saudi Arabia? You guessed it! Corrupt as they come.

16) Health Care: While Bush wants to weaken the government's role, and privatise all public responsibilities to huge corporations, I would like to illustrate an ugly picture resulting from these policPrivatizationies of Privatization: Haliburton now is assigned with the responsibility of feeding and equipping our men and women in Iraq. Our men and women should not have to pay for services that were once rendered by our government. DISGUSTING.

The government is appointed by 'We the People", therefore when a service is not rendered "We" have to power to vote or impeach that official overlooking a particular service. This is known as public accountability. This does not pertain to private companies, therefore there services can change without notice and pricing for that service can spike whenever that company deems it necessary. I trust government more than corporations. "We" do not vote for corporate officials, therefore we have no power over what they do.

His supposed Healthcare Plan was a rip-off to every American man and woman who depends on it for survival. So while he was shifting policies for Healthcare to make it more 'affordable' his appointee, was threatening to fire the Top Medicare Analyst for telling congress crucial information about the cost of the Bill. That information never made it on time to Congress before they voted on the Bill. Later, Congress find out that the estimates were false and that the actual estimates were hid from them. INCREDIBLE!!!

Kerry promises better standards especially for the middle-class and the poor. If you want more details go to http://www.johnkerry.com

I doubt he's gonna screw the people like Bush has on any of these issues.

17) Remember Valerie Plame. Outing a CIA agent because her husband disagrees with your policies is treasonous. Yet again, no accountability from this administration. Retaliation like that deserves impeachment and prosecution. If this is the type of Homeland Security Bush has for US, then I'll pass and go with Kerry.

In fact Kerry probably wouldn't allow this to happen because he actually served during a war, and respects those who take orders. I doubt he would put a CIA member's life in jeopardy, and if somebody did, he would probably hold them accountable.

While Bush claimed to be a 'Uniter he further divided this country.' Lets face it, he's used many social issues to divide us, whether intentionally or not, he did nothing to unite us. His record will speak for itself. You probably wouldn't be here debating or posting 4 years ago, but then again Bush wasn't the President back then either.

18) How about that thing called Communication. You see, it's one thing to talk like a chuckle head with friends and family, but when you are a leader of a powerful country, you should try to speak like one. Just because he speaks like the guy next door, doesn't mean he's like the guy next door. He's actually a multimillionaire that seriously hates non-Christians and anyone that is not an elite. His public policies paint a nasty picture. In fact I envision Bush as the guy in a bar you gets drunk with you and then steals woman and all your money. He learned how to speak publicly as an evangelist. What more do you need then to realise he's a CON.

Kerry speaks intelligentally because he actually tried to do well in the schools he had access to. He's a bit monotone and boring, but he knows what he talking about. In turn his communication skills allowed him the skills needed to survive in government for the past 30 years. You really need communication skills if your gonna talk to highly educated government officials so that those other officials do not publicly make a fool out of you or blind side you during the passage of a Bill in Congress. Or how about speaking to those from around the World, especially during a crisis.

19) Kerry isn't a pussy like Bush. You see Bush has his minions to do all of his dirty work for him, while essentially not even bothering to read what's going on the the World around him. That's very troubling, especially when it comes from a so-called leader of the free world. In fact, he won't even do a monthly debate with Kerry. Bush knows what would happen, so he opted out.

In fact we know now he did not volunteer for overseas duty in the National Guard. Kerry did.

20) Bush needs to come clean. He stonewalled the 911 Commission, he stonewalled information pertaining to his service records, he has stonewalled the Vallerie Plame case, he has stone walled the Energy Commissions documents from being released, stonewalled investigations into Republicans hacking into computers used by democrats to gain access to undisclosed records and has even gone to length to lock his own public records away, leaving nothing for public scrutiny or investigation. What is he afraid of?

Kerry's records are all there. Yes his service records are still not all disclosed, but I think the republicans don't want to ante up and provide those missing service records of George Bush. Fair is fair. Until Georgie Boy releases his records, we won't be seeing Kerry's.

7. Kerry's 1997 book, The New War, alerted the world to the funding of terror

including that by international governments. It stemmed from his investigations of BCCI, IranContra and CIA drugrunning.

I doubt Bush ever read it.

8. Okay...
Numbers 1 and 2 are suspect campaign promises. I have no doubt he will do his damndest on both, but #1 requires approval of a Republican-dominated Congress, and no one could possibly guarantee number 2.

Numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6-- Kerry can't take much credit for MA. I think if you want to credit politicians for these things, the lions share of this credit would go to our local and State (erm, Commonwealth) political leaders.

Number 7: I agree

Number 8: Sortof agree

Number 9: Agree

Number 10: Don't think a candidate's prior military service should be qualification or disqualification for President (but I understand your point about the hypocrisy)

Number 11: Agree

Number 12: See numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6 above.

Number 13 and 14: Not sure how to respond.

No. 15: Agree, I guess

No. 16: Agree, but his plan does not go far enough. Clinton's was much better.

No. 17, 18, 19: Not sure how to respond

No. 20: Agreed.
