6. Russert actually deserves some credit
The interview was taped, and they could have cut that segment out, but they decided to keep it in.

However, he lost those points by the using it as a case to praise Powell for taking charge of matters, just like a General should do.

11. I disagree with you on Russert losing this credibility.
Just what did you think he should have said? I don't view this incident as a problem with Powell, but with his staffer. He could have just let it happen and blame it on a tech glitch. He didnt! I don't know about the General thing, but he, on camera, did take control and tell the staffer to get back here! I suspect there was a lot stronger words AFTER the camera stopped rolling.

Sure Powell was protecting his image, but it was still the right thing to do.

Why slam Russert for crediting Powell. His initial comments about the camera being pulled away were damaging to Powell and it was right for him to clear up whose fault it was.

14. Russert may be a Conservative but...
What sets him apart from the neocons is, he is not a shill (meaning he doesn't tow the party line. He still knows right from wrong.

18. Did you know Russert is a Dem?
It sounds far fetched but he has a long history of working with the Democrats in the past. Maybe something has changed in his later years.

They just showed that strange incident on "Meet the Press". Very strange indeed. Missed the MTP program this AM, so it was the first viewing of it. Bizarre.

12. When Russert asked Powell how he felt about going to the UN
with false info, the camera panned over to a palm tree. And you could hear voices in the backgroung (Powell and the name Emily). Russert got peeved and the camera finally came back to Powell and he answered (sort of dodged) the question. A

13. how ironic
the rest of the media would have ignored at worst or downplayed at best powell's answer to the UN question. now, thanks to "emily," they've got something talk about ad infinitum.

15. Any confirmation
that the Emily was Emily Miller? I wonder because there is indeed an Emily Miller in the Public Affairs office of the State Department and Tom Delay had (has) a press liasion named Emily Miller too. One in the same and if so, was this the Emily Powell scolded to "Get out of the way," during Meet the Press?

24. Confirmation, in part
Okay, the Emily is being reported to have indeed been one Emily Miller (1). Now, I'm wondering if she is also the same Emily Miller listed as press person for Tom Delay (2)

25. Powell admits some info at U.N. was "deliberately misleading"
Edited on Sun May-16-04 12:31 PM by Snellius
Maybe they were afraid Powell would go too far in this interview and Miller was a "babysitter". But when he finally answered the critical question, he admits that some of the facts for going to war were "deliberate" lies.
