What will post-bu$h America look like?
Unless his handlers can pull off yet another evil miracle, George W. bu$h is going down to an embarrassing defeat this November. All that will remain will be to pick up the shards of America that this regime has scattered all over the planet. All that we will have to do is put our nation back together again. And all it will take is the rest of our lives.

bu$h will have left in his fascist wake thousands of sucking wounds on our collective psyche; every sort of Healer in the US will be called to endless overtime in the biggest case of PTSD since Hiroshima. We are going to be up to our scalps in some seriously Ugly Shit in the half-life of bu$h.

What do you suppose America will look like when the Subsimian goes home to the vipers' nest that birthed him? What will be the Albatrosses that he leaves hung 'round the neck of Liberty?

I can't "see" too far at all, but I don't like what I fear so far.

I am afraid the economy will decline rapidly around October when bu$h's handlers and his Corporate bankrollers realize that the election is too far gone for even Diebold to save. I am convinced that every Economic Indicator that we have been seeing for at LEAST the past eighteen months is bogus; that things are much worse in this country than is being portrayed in the Corporate Media; that the books have been cooked to a crispy black.

I fear that when the Fat Cats see King George going down past the point of rescue they will pull the plug on him--and, by extension, the rest of us. They'll cash in their chips and cut their losses and run somewhere safe. The staggering debts they hold on us will come due immediately and we will have WAY less than nothing put back for this rainiest of days.

I don't think the rest of the world will come running to our aid, either. We have shat our own nest a few times too many to look like a good investment, haven't we? What do we PRODUCE, exactly? And don't we look like EXACTLY like a lawless nation of sadists and torturers who don't hesitate for a heartbeat when it comes to plundering "dark-skinned" countries? Dealing with just the shame that bu$h has brought on us will take a generation or two!

Kerry will have to issue multiple dozens of pardons to the criminals who will be leaving the White House just so we can set about repairing America. Damn, I hate that thought, but it's true. We will not have a tenth of the time and resources necessary to mete out the Justice that these thugs so richly deserve. We're going to have to rebuild or die. Maybe even both.

Shit, I can't think about all this any longer! Take yourself a turn with the Magic 8-Ball and tell me what you see.

1. Around Dec 2004, Greenspan pulls the plug.
Edited on Sat May-15-04 07:48 AM by JaySherman
Raises interest rates, the housing bubble bursts, and the economy fully tanks just in time for Kerry to be sworn in.

I think the backlash against the conservative agenda and the Republican Party will continue to grow. A positive outcome of all this could be an increase in political activism and participation as more people run out of patience with the powers that be.

8. Actually, WRT Snake Plissken...

From what I see, John Carpenter has hit the nail on the head SQUARE, so many times... it's fuckin' SCARY.

F'rinstance... Escape From New York was released when, 1981?

Folks... back in 1981, police in black uniforms and riot gear, face shields and paramilitary weaponry was **not** known of! Carpenter hit the nail square with the United States Police Force. He predicted 'em, they appeared. Not a national police force (yet) but damned close.

Carpenter predicted the right wing para-religious government we have now. That was in 1981, mind you! If one reads the Escape From New York novelisation, he hit the fuel crisis dead-on, too, and in Escape From Los Angeles, he got ther character of the President hammered, too! EFLA was filmed while Clinton was still in office (1997) and nobody knew Dubya was going to be the next Prez. In EFLA, the Prez is pseudo religious, spouting all kinds if biblical crap while hiding under a table (personally a coward) and ordering others to do his killing for him.

Now, some things Carpenter predicted haven't come true YET, but give 'em time! Things like:

Cities being converted to prisons. I doubt that will happen.

Collapse of economy, going to a credit card system instead of devalued currency. Maybe. It's very plausible.

Insanity gas used as weaponry... H'mm. Anthrax doesn't drive you insane, but it is spread in the air... Gas may be the next big thing.

Electromagnetic pulse takes out electronics? Could happen very easily.

Invasion by third world countries? With the current standooff with Cuba, that is becoming more and more realistic a scenario.

So your Snake avatar is nOt far off the mark. "President of what?" INDEED!

11. Wonder how long it will be before "They Live" is proven to be fact
That movie nailed our materialistic and brainwashed society like no other.

I think Carpenter is probably the most underrated filmmaker of our time. I've liked every movie of his that I've seen (though I never saw "Ghosts of Mars"). And "Escape from New York" was way, way ahead of its time. The scripted exchange between Snake Plissken and Bob Hauk in that movie, where they're talking about the war Plissken was in, sounds just like they're talking about Iraq and Bush.

12. Yep!!

BTW, if you're a fan of fan fiction, I found a great story online.

Google "Plissken" and the phrase "Fire Next Time" (I lost the URL) and it'll take you to a very long, but reasonably well written novel.

I found it on a list I used to be on some time ago.

15. Thanks! I'll check it out.
I also heard about a year ago that Carpenter and Kurt Russell were involved in a project to make an anime film that takes place the day after "Escape from New York". The film was slated to be released in the summer of 2005, along with a video game that also features Russell's voice. Don't know what the latest status is.

6. Sure.
Expect lots of inflation. Higher interest rates that will devastate consumers. Higher fuel prices for everything, which will cause the economy to get a lot worse.

And then there's the little matter of what happens if the US becomes a target for more frequent acts of terrorism. Of course, that could never happen. Homeland security woudn't permit it. No, we need not ever worry about that. Right? :scared:

9. I see a bad moon rising.
The economy will be in really bad shape. Inflation, then high interest rates to squash it. Debt, bankruptcies, despair.

Kerry will need to prepare the country for this and affix blame squarely on Bush*--before his inauguration.

10. Unless Kerry cleans up the media & reinstates the Fairness Doctrine
Edited on Sat May-15-04 05:36 PM by loudsue
the right wing media will do to him what they did to Clinton and Carter -- they will make him out to be an idiotic bozo, guilty of some "heinous" crime against decency.

IF we manage to overcome the black boxes we'll be voting on, and IF Kerry reinstates the Fairness Doctrine and busts up the press monopolies, THEN he may have a chance to bring Americans on board to clean the mess up.

One of the other things that needs to happen, however, is to get rid of the repukes holding both houses of congress, PLUS the supreme court.

If Americans can once again control their ballots, and elections can no longer be stolen, we're going to have to replace some of our "beloved" Dems who have whored to the corporatist fascists for too long now.

Laws that repukes have shoved down our throats need to be repealed. New laws that protect and support CITIZENS, instead of corporations, have to be enacted.

If Kerry hopes to begin turning things around quickly, he first has to lop off the head of the dragon....the mafias that are running and ruining our country. He needs to purge the CIA of those (few, I hope) members who are actually mafia thugs (many with Nazi ties), and oversee the hiring of some new talent that will support and protect U.S. citizens. I truly believe MOST of the people in the CIA are ok folks -- like Valerie Plame. But, unfortunately, there are a great many of them who are still selling drugs and arms, and working for the mafia -- or at least, the most undesirable elements of society (like the bush family evil empire)!

And ABSOLUTELY, we need to dismantle the Patriot Act and the Homeland Security legislation that is so terrifying and oppressive.

Once Americans are "free" again, we will have the creativity and desire to, once again, take the bull by the horns and build our country back up. We CAN find alternative energy sources! We CAN have peace with other nations!

That's my fantasy!

13. He also needs to start enforcing the Sherman Antitrust Act again.
Why stop at the media monopolies? Bust up ALL the corporate monopolies. Fat chance of that happening, but I can dream.
