Torture?? Not torture??
Edited on Fri May-14-04 01:19 PM by SoCalDem
The media has its collective panties in a twist trying to "define" what went on (and may still be going on) with the "detainees"..

Semantics abound.. It's "abuse"...it's "not-niceness"...it's "interrogation techniques"...it's "pressure"...it's a "fraternity stunt"...it's "letting off steam"...it's "having a little fun"...

The definitive way to tell is this:

If those detainees were American soldiers, and the jailers were Iraqi, what would it be??

It would be torture.

2. And it's precisely WHY we have the Geneva Convention.
The anticipation of the time when YOUR soldiers or citizens MIGHT be taken is the reason why the rules are in place.. By choosing to ignore those rules, we made the confinement of the "next" American very "unpleasant".. We will never again be able to claim "outrage" at the treatment of one of our detained..

George threw the rule book in the trash.

3. Imagine if Jessica Lynch had to dance with wires on her fingers.
What if she was hooded, made to expose her breasts or raped? What if she was forced to lay naked or had dogs bite her.

4. Question
Where is PFC Maupin, remember him, the soldier that was taken prisoner
after the convoy he was with was ambushed and destroyed.

Why haven't we heard about him?

6. He's from the county I grew up in.
I told Mr. Nownow last weekend, when we were driving down to visit our mothers in the area, it's a little sickening to see all the 'pray for Matt Maupin' signs when you know he's probably already dead. I feel for his family -- they have to know.

7. The guy who wrote Blackhawk Down was on Hardball. I only caught
a portion of it but apparently he is an expert on "torture" and he had two points. It WAS TORTURE and whoever was calling the shots is an IDIOT. He is also of the belief that the troops were ordered to do this from higher ups. My point is, the more people that go on cable news and repeat this information, the more the republicans lose their argument.

If anyone else saw more, they may be able to provide more information.
