President Bush and his wife do not plan to attend their twin daughters' college graduation ceremonies later this month, the White House said Thursday.
"There are no plans at this time to attend these ceremonies," said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for Laura Bush. "The Bushes felt the focus should be on the students, and not how long the lines are to go through the metal detectors."
Jenna Bush is slated to graduate May 22 from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English. Barbara Bush graduates May 24 with a humanities degree from Yale University.

Motorists are being urged to avoid I-43 in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties this afternoon as President Bush's motorcade makes its way from Mitchell International Airport to Concordia University.
Bush is scheduled to deliver Concordia's commencement address at 3 p.m. today, and traffic on I-43 and on the east side of Mequon could be slow going, especially during the afternoon rush-hour.
...
Bigger backups, but not of the vehicle kind, could occur at Concordia, 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive, where as many as 7,000 people are expected to attend the ceremonies.
Commencement is being held in Concordia's R. John Buuck Field House, and the estimated 5,000 people who have tickets to get in will have to pass through metal detectors.
"There are many metal detectors, and everyone has to go through them," said Heidi Fendos, a Concordia spokeswoman.
On edit: The lesson learned? Jenna and Barbara shoulda gone to college in swing states.
