Bush* has driven the car of state into a ditch says top GOP pundit
Bill Krystol was caught repeating this statement on Daily show last night. He said Bush* has really screwed things up but that he still backed the idea of going over to mideast and overthrowing a few dictators and establishing Democracy = PNAC. Jon was great. Asked him if he was going to vote for Kerry since Bush* was such a screw up. Krystol was totally de-fanged and had no talking points.

2. I saw it..
Edited on Fri May-14-04 09:56 AM by notadmblnd
after he realised what he said, he tried to smooth it over by saying that he's just veered off the road a little bit. John Stewart said if this guy has driven into a ditch, is he the one we really want to get us out of it?

I don't know if the show reruns on Friday's or not, but if you can catch it over the weekend, it's worth the watch.

3. That's the problem with drunk driving
Too often it kills innocent victims and leaves the driver unscathed.

4. Is Kristol now one of the ELITE conservatives that Richard Lowry
(Nat Review, this morning on C-Span) was referring to? He dismissed those ELITE (I guess this is the new insulting word) conservatives as not REAL CONSERVATIVES.
Boy, I bet this would be a surprise for all of us, especially Kristol the PNAC beast. A basic moment of honesty must have escaped from is hole of darkness.

6. I Was Shocked at That Interview --
Kristol had a difficult time defending Bush at all. I mean, most of the time, he agreed with all Jon's points, but still recommended reelecting Bush. Jon couldn't get him to take that back.

Kristol had some very severe criticisms of Rumsfeld in particular. He said that Rumsfeld deserved a lot more criticism up to now, but that he deserved less over the prison scandal now. He was smiling and perfectly composed, but was a very weak proponent of the administration. Stewart shot off zinger after zinger and Kristol mostly laughed and let it slide.

7. I saw this on the Daily Show too. I was shocked to hear
Krystol say "yes he drove us into a ditch". But then, he immediately said, no not a ditch....Jon, you tricked me into that one.

Good writers and editors are never tricked into something like that, unless they really agree and it was a slip that let it out!

8. It will take one monstrous tow truck
to get that car out of the ditch. I don't think one exists.

9. Let me quote Eisenhower on this...
In one of his campaign commercials from the 1952 "Eisenhower Answers America" series, he compares Adlai Stevenson to a bus driver who has driven the bus into a ditch. And what do you do in this situation? "You get a new bus driver," says Ike. :D

10. Billy Crystal has got to hate it that his name is a homonym for Bill
Kristol's. I think if I were in his shoes I would be going out of my way to point out the difference in spelling.
