Lou Dobbs says if the CIA says its true that should be sufficient...
http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0405/13/ldt.00.html

<snip>DOBBS: Any indication that the CIA using language like high probability, with all of the sophisticated technical capacity, can move to certainty on al-Zarqawi?

ENSOR: Very difficult. The quality of the tape is not ideal. It was, of course, fed over the Internet. It is a little murky in places.

But high probability suggests they're reasonably sure they're right. Now, in fairness, some other Arabic-language speakers who have looked at the tape are not so sure. But here you have the nation's premier intelligence agency saying they believe it is Zarqawi.

DOBBS: We don't have to be fair and balanced on this one, David. If the CIA can come up with high probability and perhaps certainty, that should be sufficient.

Hey Lou. Did you forget that the CIA said that Iraq was loaded with WMDs too? What an idiot.

1. Now, didn't some Middle Eastern agencies say 'no'?
I'm not 100% sure, but didn't a few ME intelligence agencies say it was NOT al-Zarqawi?

2. Actually the CIA did *not* say that Iraq was loaded with WMDs.
Edited on Fri May-14-04 07:48 AM by w4rma
Bush's Office of Special Planning said that.

6. Tenet still says they are there - CIA chief stands by his reports on WMDs
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/02/06/wmd06.xml

The CIA director, George Tenet, mounted a passionate defence of the role and record of America's intelligence agency yesterday, denying it had tailored information on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction to bolster the case for war.

Amid mounting controversy in Washington over the shortcomings of the intelligence that fuelled the drive to war, Mr Tenet said his analysts had never claimed that Iraq posed an "imminent threat".

He also denied that he had faced political pressure. "No one told us what to say or how to say it," he said.

But he conceded that some of the pre-war assessments about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein had not been backed up since his overthrow, and also that the CIA had failed to penetrate the ex-dictator's inner circle.

"When the facts of Iraq are all in, we will neither be completely right nor completely wrong," he said at Georgetown University, as he stressed that the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was far from over.

3. Evidently the accent was not Jordanian...
according to one Arabic language expert.

So, we're supposed to believe the CIA anyway, right?
