If there was an open seat in first, it was always offered to Sen. Hutchinson. She seldom took it. As a cockpit jump-seater, I was also often offered a first class seat on that early flight. I, like KBH, most often opted to ride in the near-empty coach section. There, sleep could knit the raveled edge of care.

I was always in uniform. Once, as we neared DC, I spoke to Kay Baily Hutchinson (as we stood in a short line for a final lav visit) about a pending airline labor issue. She cut me off at the knees. No labor sympathy in that witch.

Actually I heard there's a good chance that's she's going to give up her Senate seat and run for Governer. She and her husband adopted a couple of children and they want to raise them in Texas. Everyone here HATES Perry (including most of the Republicans) so there's a good chance that he will be out of the Governer's office. Whether we can get a Democrat in the Governor's office or not, I'm not sure, but Kay can do less damage here than she can in Washington.
