Gas Prices...Inflation, etc.
I live in the southwest where gas prices are traditionally low but we are being hit hard. Right now gas is 1.87 a gallon and diesel is 1.64. How much higher can these prices go? I remember last summer the truckers were barely making money, at what point is diesel so expensive it doesn't pay for a trucker to work? What happens then?
I'm a farmer and pay close attention to commodity prices, they are all in a steep incline. Just paying for the diesel to run my small operation is already hurting. My prices will have to be 10 to 15 percent higher than last year.
So overall - are we about to see a period of hyper-inflation?

1. $2.059 today.
That's the most I've ever paid for gasoline. I could only afford 4 gallons.

5. Get ready, the worst is still ahead....
...for gas that is. Hyper-inflation is an extreme result to a situation of far too many dollars chasing too few goods. But, inflation has jumped to 2.7%, that could begin to creep up because of energy inflation, then followed by regular hikes in interest rates, and taxes and then it could look like post-Vietnam all over again (12% to 15% inflation). Guess what will have caused such a spiral? Yep, the Bush tax cuts, the Great Stupid Bush War and Bush's record deficit spending.

That's the most I have ever seen on the island. I haven't seen numbers like that since I left Cali 11 months ago.
