Political "Jeopardy" this week
Sorry if this is a dupe. . .all this week on Jeopardy, the contestants are all Washington insiders/journalists (no pols, sadly). The likes of Ari Fleisher, Peggy Noonan, Bob Woodward, Al Franken, Tucker Carlson will be competing.

For inside scoop and the lineup:

2. I hope tomorrows players do better. SPOILER ALERT
Edited on Mon May-10-04 04:15 PM by PragMantisT
Sorry if you haven't seen it yet. I don't give away too much.

Today's players (Woodward, Noonan, Carlson) were idiots. Schmucker didn't know who was king during the American Revolution? None of them knew what team Elway played for? They were almost as stupid as elected officials.

3. Picks. (my mortal lock of the week)
Edited on Mon May-10-04 06:14 PM by troublemaker
I have no inside info on this, but here's who I would expect to win:

Monday: Tucker Carlson of CNN's "Crossfire," Peggy Noonan, the former presidential speechwriter, and Woodward of The Post. This is the toughest one. (Fleisher over Aaron Brown was also tough) Carlson and Woodward are pretty close, but Woodward is often so dense and ponderous I can't picture him being quick on the button. But Tucker's got his own flaws... I'll take Woodward. Now Peggy Noonan will probably win just to mess with me, but she's as dumb as a box of rocks.

Tuesday: Anderson Cooper of CNN's "360 Degrees," Bartiromo from CNBC, and Kweisi Mfume, the president of the NAACP.

Wednesday: Ari Fleischer, former White House press secretary, Ashleigh Banfield, who used to work for NBC, and Aaron Brown of CNN's "Newsnight."

Thursday: Franken, the liberal talker, Gretchen Carlson of CBS's "Early Show" and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC's "Countdown."

Friday: Tavis Smiley of NPR and PBS, Christine Todd Whitman, the former Environmental Protection Agency head, and Tim Russert of NBC's "Meet the Press."

14. On Edit:

I detect some sexism in my picks. I noticed I had all the women losing so I thought I should at least make sure I hadn't overlooked anyone. On further inspection, I think my pick of Cooper over Maria Bartiromo was gender-bias influenced. Maria Bartiromo is now the pick. I think she's brighter than Cooper, but I thought her focus as a business reporter would limit her. On reflection, her CNBC talk show is unusually intelligent and features very fancy guests--real intellectuals and such--talking about a lot of things besides business.

4. lol
watching Woodward tonight was hilarious. He is a smart guy but he just isn't made for the rapid fire jeopardy format. I'm glad Tucker beat Noonan in the end (they both are repubs but Noonan's groupie love of all things Bush/Reagan drive me nuts). I'm looking forward to the rest of the week.

7. What got me was their choice of charities.
Edited on Mon May-10-04 07:58 PM by OhMyGod
Carlson - Some girls camp in Maine his wife and daughter attended.

Woodward - The school his daughter attends.

Noonan - Some Catholic nun place that helps women and girls in need (translate pregnant).

Noonan's was better, although probably antiabortion. But Woodward and Carlson, don't they know there are people in this world that really need charity?

8. I caught that to
Woodward's was particularly ridiculous considering the state of the surrounding school systems. I thought you were supposed to pick charities that were desperate not those that directly benefit your relatives.... oh well I hope tomorrows is better the whole show was out of rhythm.

12. Anyone notice
How Alex Trebek immediately cut off Bob Woodward, when Woodward went into his explanation of "Plan of Attack"?

It went something like this:
BW- It's called "Plan of Attack," and its about George W. Bush & the Iraq war-
AT- GREAT! Let's get back to the game!

Meanwhile Tucker Carlson had plenty of time to take a dig at James Carville. Hmm.....

13. Woodward's charity was Sidwell Friend's School !!??
Like the kids of rich Washington DC big wigs need a little charity. A couple of friends of mine went to that school and they say they were the poor kids there - and their dad was a lawyer for the CIA! All of their classmates were the children of Senators or Congress people. That's where Chelsea Clinton went to school for crying out loud! He couldn't come up with a more deserving charity? Oy, already!
