U.S. waiting for July to capture Osama?
Can someone please tell me what the significance of these particular 10 days would be other than to take the attention away from the Democratic National Convention?

"Just to pass on some added information, about which we'll be saying more. There is chatter in Pakistani intelligence circles that the US has let the Pakistanis know that the optimal time for bagging 'high value' al Qaida suspects in the untamed Afghan-Pakistani border lands is the last ten days of July, 2004."

1. If so then it would obvioulsy be politically timed.
And most people will know it.

2. It just confirms once again...
How cynical this administration is. They would time something as important to the security of the Nation as the capture of Osama to political expedience. It just confirms to me they let him escape a few years ago just to keep him around in case they needed to "pull the rabbit out of the hat".

Given what is happing with these idiot criminals, they need that, and more!! Where is the mainstream press on this crap?? Out feeding at the trough with the rest of the pigs, no doubt.

3. I was really hoping
that even they weren't that cynical. But how can you ignore the timing?
The mainstream press is too busy getting their jollies from the Abu Ghraib photos.

4. We have no idea where he is, IMHO
Whether because of too many resources diverted to Iraq or just because he's one slick mofo, we have no clue. He could be just about anywhere, really.

5. I agree with you on that one.
But I don't believe that the administration knows that they have no clue. So the idea would be to catch Osama in time for this.

6. Either 7/4, or 9/11
Ultimate in "patriotic" spin.

WOULD NOT FUC-ING SURPRISE ME.

Would make 9/11 a true "holiday" (well for Repukes, everybody else would remember that people died - except for soundbytes).

7. Don't read more than words say
I know every reply I post is cranky, but I'm in a perpetual bad mood. That said... Not everything is a code. Bush wants Pakistan to conduct some high-profile hunts for Al Qeada types during the Democratic convention--further proof that Bush is lower than an animal, but not that Osama is in a freezer somewhere.

But why read beyond the words "'high value' al Qaida suspects?" We just had a similar highly publicized operation to smooth over the Ali Khan story. Sadly, such things are SOP. The reason Josh Marshall (the very best voice on the web, IMO) put quotes around 'high value' seems to me to mock the concept of 'high value' because we were fed all that BS by Pakistan during the recent hunt. If Marshall meant UBL he would have said so, rather than being cute about it.

8. Ask your congress people about this. THIS IS IMPORTANT
WE NEED TO GET THIS OUT IN THE OPEN BEFORE IT HAPPENS

Too many people won't believe it after the fact.
