2. If this is true
McCain will creep up a notch in my estimation.

He still has a long ways to go, though.

4. McCain is more attuned to the military than Jr.
He knows what needs to be done.

13. Plus the fact that he was a POW for 5 years
...in Vietnam definitely gives him perspective on this.

5. McCain breaks ranks more often than most Repugs.
I am hopeful that others will follow this time.

17. Wolfowitz blew it already
Wolfowitz's ignorance on the number of war dead will put up a few roadblocks amongst Dems and a few Repubs, maybe McCain.

Bush is in trouble, so I doubt he'd pick a confirmation fight right now. IF Rumsfield goes, Bush is going to want someone with public approval, not someone who doesn't bother counting our own casualties.

The perfect fit for Bush would be McCain. He's popular, he's good on foreign affairs, he crosses the aisle sometimes, and best of all, Bush could put him in a black hole where he will look bad for criticizing the president. McCain, of course, would only accept under the worst of threats.

10. I just saw a little blurb that said "McCain says it too soon to tell if
Rummy should step down".

At least he isn't in full support mode.

14. During the 2000 campaign the Bushies always claimed
that McCain was unstable and ready to go over the line. Maybe they're about to finally prove themselves right, but it won't be a line they want to see him go over. It'll be the one separating the right from the left side of the Senate.

16. Imus was urging republicans to take the lead on this
dont listen to Imus often, dont like him,so I was surprised to hear him say that, but thats what he was advocating. He named McCain or Hagel, he sounded very disgusted with bush, this morning.

20. That's weird
Only because CNN has had something to the effect of "McCain says too early to ask Rumsfeld to resign" on their crawl for the last hour or so.
