Update - The Cost of War on Terror
I have previously posted current costs of "war on terror" since 911 was 205 Billion after seeing recent McLaughlin Group 2 sundays ago. At that time he also hypothesized that costs would reach another 60B through the election. Well....I guess you may have heard in the news that 25B of that is now on the table.

Another clarification for those that have gone on the web to see the cost of the war in Iraq at http://costofwar.com/index.html. Keep in mind this is only for the ongoing war in Iraq. It now reads about 113 Billion.

I recently wrote Elias from that site and she was kind enough to write back:

"I wanted to write a quick note while I had the chance and I might write a longer one later. Cost of war only includes costs of the war in Iraq. So we didn't include any homeland security or Afghanistan costs. We have timed our counter so that on September 30, 2004, we'll reach $128 billion.

That should include the Iraq portion of the two supplementals, from 4/16/03 and 11/6/03. These probably are low, but we would rather be lower than higher."

Thanks.

Elias Vlanton.

1. 'Poor paying for war on terror'
Snip from BBC News:

Some of the world's poorest people are suffering as a result of the war on terror, a leading UK charity has said.

Christian Aid says the UK Government must halt a "dangerous drift" towards linking aid to fighting terror.

The report cites Iraq, Afghanistan and Uganda as places where funds have been "wrongly diverted".

The international development department said promises had been kept and funds earmarked for humanitarian aid had been spent as intended.
