Will there be an outcry when US military deaths reach 1000?
I think its unfortunetly inevitable that this number will be reached, we're already at 770 according to this website: http://lunaville.org/warcasualties/Summary.aspx

Is this the magic number where the majority of Americans will realize Iraq has gone terrible wrong? I dont understand why people aren't already upset with 770. Maybe its because people aren't even aware of this number since all we here in the news are passing comments about a solider dying here, a solider dying there, no big deal, really.

1. photos are the only thing that gets through
numbers...reports...don't mean a thing

the public must see photos before they believe anything

10. That bothers me, also
I know there are individual people who are quite upset on behalf of the Iraqi people, but all in all, it just doesn't seem to matter much to most people. What the US has done to them is so horrendous, that I can't imagine people not even thinking about it. Especially considering how many children are harmed, and we USians are supposed to be so concerned about children.

I'm getting to the point where I am more concerned about the Iraqis, for the sake of some balance.

3. Interesting, the total was 773 a few minutes ago?
And yes, 1000 is only a number, but the psychological effect puts the number in the thousands. Sad.

4. -
I think 3000 may be the number that gets some people's attention - that's roughly equal to the number who died in the WTC attack.

5. I thought since the corporate media had stopped mentioning soldier deaths
Edited on Sun May-09-04 09:51 PM by CharlesGroce
that it must have been true that more soldiers than ever were dying everyday. Turns out I was right I guess.

So 1000 = 10 ^ 3 deaths, why wait to be outraged? Dennis Kucinich for President.

7. No.
The American sheeple don't seem to care. April was a bloody month, but Bush's numbers are still steady. Gas is $2.00/gallon here in Raleigh, NC, grocery staples are going up and everyone just seems resigned to the end of days. As for the Iraq torture pictures, I think most Americans find them disturbingly titillating, but since Iraqis are subhuman, do not really care.

8. No outcry.
The media wouldn't permit that. Plus, the public isn't all that concerned about casualties. The Repugs have made this basically a no pain war for a majority of Americans.

No. Only a ratcheting up of the cognitive dissonance.
And it'll drive America mad, too.

Ever more shrill calls for the heads of the disloyal and the godless. That kind of thing.
