Everyone dreads that government-owned car pulling up and soldiers in Army dress uniforms stepping out.

2. It would never be a happy celebration, but at least
it would mean something if your loved died for something other than his/her commander-in-chief's GREED!!!!! I say send in the twins!

4. my guess as to the saddest moment , would be when...
they realize their loved one has died for lies to enrich the powerful in charge of this country. Now that is fucking sad...

5. Not correct at all. The saddest moment in a military spouses life is when
they find out that promises mean nothing whatsoever. Dead is dead, sorry about that, get on with what life you have or can create. Period.

The healthcare benefits that you were promised are no longer available and were killed off by politics, not need. The retirement you were promised was denied because of a rather insignificant mistake in the eleventh hour of an otherwise exemplary career. A much needed/deserved promotion is foregone due to career field downsizing/elimination. Educational reimbursement is denied due to someones personal definition of career field enhancement objective. On and on, military careers are destroyed daily by news that is ultimately more damaging to livelihoods than anything the uniformed officers pretend to be so concerned about. At least in death, the most celebrated of military career considerations, a certain financial objective is met. With all others it is only iffy at it's best. Not very pretty for recruiters to clarify, now is it?

I remember Viet Nam. I remember families being forced off of military installations when the military spouses were reassigned. I remember the families that were left with nothing after being notified that their "breadwinner" had been eliminated/killed by the enemy. I remember that none of us ever thought that was a propensity of our government or society and I remember how I felt when I realized that is indeed how others felt about me and my work. I've never gotten over any of that. That yellow cab was a blessing in disguise, sometimes. At least then you got $10,000 in life insurance. Many times, you got nothing but broken promises and/or a spouse that never remembered getting off the aircraft that brought him back home. Is that "their" problem or ours?

As a Democrat, I think it is "ours". As a veteran, I still think it is "ours". As an American, I continue to think it is our problem. These fuckin' warhawks, in and out of the military, are just so misled.
