Lieberman defends Rumsfeld from calls for his resignation
"There's not enough evidence to convict Secretary Rumsfeld of the kind of wrongdoing that would lead him to resign, or for the president to ask for his resignation."

-- Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn.

38. Convinced that if Gore hadn't chosen him it would have been Landslide!
I got a creepy feeling when Gore announced him for VP. Then I got over it, but later on, "creepy feeling" proved to be correct.

For all his liberal voting record he's no friend to us and I start to wonder that he didn't "throw" the election with his behavior since the "Selection."

He is disgusting. Doesn't support Democrats and is so partisan for Sharon that one wonders how he can live with his conscience!

still point out that his voting record is almost totally consistent with progressive Democrat, whether environmental issues, labor, etc (unlike Zig Zag Zell). But, I just don't think Lieberman can see beyond his number one priority, which is as pro-Israeli as the neocons. That is clearly his blind spot and seems to be behind all the pro-Repug things that he has done/said.... Less I attrack attacks from the ME forum regulars, I think one can be pro-fairness for both Israelis and Palestinians WITHOUT leaning too far in either direction. That Lieberman does lean so far towards Sharon and the US neocons, is evidence to me that he is not able to be (or interested in being) "pro-fairness."

Nonetheless, I'd take Holy Joe any day over Zell.

20. Pardon?
It is not about what Rummy did wrong - and he did plenty - it is about pissing off the entire Arab world (again), shocking the (irrelevant) Europeans enough that even formerly pro-war politicians did a 180, ignoring the Geneva Constitution (again), proving right the worst fears about the US not joining the ICC (again), destroying the minuscule hopes of establishing peace in Iraq, ...

So please, even if he did really know nothing, he is responsible and needs to be fired - for incompetence, if for no other reason.

21. Having Holy Joe in the Democratic Party
serves no purpose. This is way beyond wanting to kick someone out of the big tent. He is way beyond being a conservative Dem. It is one thing to work towards bipartisan cooperation in government. It is quite another to conspire with the enemy in a time of war. And yes Virginia we are at war for control for the direction of this country. A war we cannot afford to lose. If Holy Joe cannot and will not moderate his tone and stand as a Democrat I will not censor his speech. But he has no right to say these things within the Democratic Party.

35. No, there are no links - it's something that popped into my head
as I've tried to replay all the information from 2000 in light of his conduct now - I was quite satisfied with the selection at the time - I thought that a lot of people must have approved of the selection. Joe was so exuberant. I liked his wife. I really liked the idea of a VP who was Jewish. It fit my idea of inclusion and was a step in the direction of opening up to a Native American, Black American, or female President. Everything was OK with me except for his assinine moral criticism of Clinton during the character assassination and the money he took from CANF.

In the last 10 or so months, I've tried to figure out why I never read any signs in him of his disgusting positions and I can't believe how easy it is for him to earn a guest shot on the propaganda shows. His positions are abhorrant.

So I thought maybe I didn't see something back then. How could he have changed that much in three years? How can he say exactly what a right winger would say? Calling himself a Democrat became hypocritical to me.

It's only a thought.

I wonder how much they had to pay him to take the Underground Railroad to Baker during that Unelection?

47. I have a question
Presidential candidates seem to have a committee that helps them pick a vice president. Does any one remember who helped Gore pick his running mate?

Next question - who is helping Kerry pick his running mate?

I really think, looking back, if Gore had of become president there might have been a strange accident and we would have had Holy Joe for president.

I also really think Chaney is running the country, not Bush. I think most of the evilness of this administration comes from the vice president's office.

I think Kerry needs to be very careful where he getting his advice, and who he picks for a running mate.
