Rangel Calls for Impeachment: Transcript from CSPAN (rough)
Edited on Thu May-06-04 01:21 PM by dralston
Okay, here it is. From the point where I switched from the Senate to the House on advice from BlueEyedSon (thank you!).

"...an atmosphere where all of the people in iraq have been demonized, where it appears to American people and certainly to our military that the people in iraq are responsible for 911 and causing us pain, that the Secretary of Defense did have info months ago about these atrocities and that he kept it from the president, he kept it from the Congress, and he kept it from the American people.

I think that this rises to the point that it's a high crime and a misdemeanor, if he disappointed the president, kept information from the congress and kept this information from the american people, I think America and the world wants us to show the outrage, not by rhetoric, but by taking action!

And if the president doesn't fire the secretary, if he doesn't resign, I think it's the responsibility of this Congress to file articles of impeachment and force him to leave office.

Then the whole world would know, not just our military, not just Americans, but the whole world what we stand for.

If people can say mission completed when it looks like there's victory, and we see atrocities like this and it happens on someone's watch. If they don't have the dignity to say, "I'm sorry," and move on, the we have the responsibility under our Constitution to remove these people from office. He kept the info away from this congress. We have the responsibility of oversight. I'm preparing articles of impeachment today.

That last sentence was confirmed with the closed-captioning to read as it does. It was a little tough to tell if he said "...on preparing articles..." or "...I'm preparing articles...", but I confirmed it was "I'm".

4. Give that man the Spirit of Henry B Gonzales Award!!
Way to go, Charles Rangel. It's been a good day for some of my favorite Democrats. First Harkin, now Rangel. Now we need Jimmy Carter's advice!

Just yesterday she yelled at a caller who said the Dems weren't doing enough. She said they were, but you don't seeing them doing it in the right-wing media, only on C-Span. Hang in there, honey, you'll be on air in an hour, LOL!

Rangel just called for Articles of Impeachment

He's got the guts to do what too many wobblers in Congress won't.

10. Remarks from Tom DeLay (R-TX)
Taken off of C-SPAN in real-time:

Operation Iraqi Freedom...has been an absolute good for the cause of human freedom in the world.

Attempts to politicize will rightly be seen by our enemies as an opportunity to recruit, to propagandize...

14. Still unclear: Rumsfeld or Bush?
"And if the president doesn't fire the secretary, if he doesn't resign, I think it's the responsibility of this Congress to file articles of impeachment and force him to leave office."

"If people can say mission completed when it looks like there's victory, and we see atrocities like this and it happens on someone's watch. If they don't have the dignity to say, "I'm sorry," and move on, the we have the responsibility under our Constitution to remove these people from office. He kept the info away from this congress. All those damn pronouns... I still can't tell who Rangel is referring to here.

Either way, this is BIG.

15. Pronouns are making it tricky
But I think since he rails against Secretary Rumsfeld for not telling the president, the congress, or the people, it's Rummy he's after.

Maybe Charlie left it open deliberately. Who knows what news will come out tomorrow. LOL!

Personally, I think responsibility falls on the President to ASK the Secretary of Defense what's going on. How long does he think his "Nobody told me" excuse is going to work?
