If Rumsfeld is going to send a lackey to further obfuscate, dissemble and lie about torture...the press should use their spines and walk the hell out of the door.

4. Wolfowitz is the real Secretary of Defense

The Bushies put Rummy up there because they knew Wolfowitz would be unpalatable to Congress and America.

5. Bizarre

This is a disturbing development.

We can see what Bush intends to do -- offer Rumsfeld as a blood sacrifice, and continue to embrace the PNAC NeoCon ideologues.

They're going to make Rummy the scapegoat, when -- although he certainly has a level of culpability -- he was largely merely implementing the edicts of His Chimperial Majesty, who was being told what to do by Wolfowitz.

They are signalling that everything is going to go on as before.

After all -- without the PNAC plan, there is absolutely no justifcation for being in Iraq whatsoever.

Rummy has been culpable, but has leaked or otherwise signalled that he was uncomfortable with a lot of the orders he was receiving.

Wolfowitz is the chief architect of the debacle. His goal was nothing short of WWIII. Working most closely with him is the idiotic Condi Rice, and the sociopathic Cheney.

Sadly, no single resignation will solve this situation. I feel the whole adminstration has got to go.

Impeachment.
