LOL, Fundies try to ban the term "FCUK" from T shirts
Edited on Thu May-06-04 09:40 AM by DaveSZ
Government asked to approve trademark of 'FCUK'
Dear Dave,

The French Connection United Kingdom Company has applied for government approval of a registered trademark using their acronym, "FCUK." If the French Connection gets approval for the trademark, the "FCUK" will begin appearing on T-shirts, tote bags, sodas, mugs and many, many other products worn and displayed in the public, all with the approval of the U.S. government! Plus it will be used in advertising in all media: TV, newspapers, magazines, etc.

Last year, major retailers pulled products from their store shelves carrying the acronym because of its offensiveness. Now the company is asking the United States Patent & Trademark Office to officially sanction it as a standard trademark for public promotion of their products in America.

Click here to see a sample of their product.

WARNING: The material is extremely offensive.

Take Action

Ask the Federal Trademark Office to reject the applications and not approve FCUK as a government-recognized trademark in the United States.

Our children don't need to see this term pop up on TV and newspaper ads, or worn in public.

And, David, won't you please forward this e-mail to a friend? Do it for our children.
Send Your Letter Now!
Sincerely,

Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman
American Family Association

10. They'll just make sure to use only faith-based OS's...
like Windows. Nothing like "chmod 666 (filename)" in Windows.

3. Does anyone else ever get the feeling
That when the mom in Carrie cackles "they're all laughing at you!" that it pretty much sums up what other countries must be thinking about us?

11. Believe me, dearest nonconformist
very few are "laughing" anymore. It's more like staring in disbelief and abject horror wondering what the FCUK happened to former friends.
I was part of a comedy theatre piece this week and Mr Happy did a bit with flyswatters of different shapes. He pulled out a big one and called it the "American Massacre Swatter. Kills EVERYTHING in its path!" A sound rose from the audience which I cannot describe. I've been on the stage my entire life and have NEVER heard such a collective utterance, followed by a HUGE round of applause...

5. This is pretty silly
Have the fundies nothing better to get upset over? But remembering the issue Falwell had over one of the Teletummies, ( was that what they are called ) , I guess no, they haven't.

7. You know what
FCUK does piss me off. Not because of the word FUCK but because it's a cynical marketing ploy.

I'd actually prefer it if the tee shits said "I'm a fcuking imbecile for wearing this"

8. Rev. Wildmon sent me a letter back in the 80s -
all outraged about condom ads on TV, and asking me to send a monetary contribution.

I sent him a condom.

Dear Secretary Evans,

I understand that French Connection United Kingdom Company has applied for the trademark "FCUK" to be used on many products they currently make, or have planned.

I ask that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office approve these trademarks. It is obvious that such an acronym would be offensive to many, many individuals, however, I believe in the First Amendment guarantee of free speech, unlike the so-called American "Family" Association, which seeks to abridge freedom of speech, thought and religion. I'm sure that "FCUK" would promote their products in media outlets such as TV, newspapers and magazines, and that's just fine with me. No one has a right not to be offended, and if people find this trademark offensive, they can choose not to buy, or even look at, the products.

The AFA obviously has no respect for us or our Constitution. Therefore, I ask that you request the USPTO office to approve this trademark to French Connection United Kingdom Company.

Specifically, I refer to application serial numbers 78239593, 78346298, 78061686, and 75463066."

Edited to add:

This is what they want people to send. Please click their link and send your email in support of free speech if you find this as silly as I do.

Dear Secretary Evans,

I ask that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office deny these trademarks. It is obvious that such an acronym would be offensive to many, many individuals like myself. I'm sure that "FCUK" would promote their products in media outlets such as TV, newspapers and magazines.
