He gains all his political strength by dividing the people. Even on C-SPAN, they have divided the call lines between Bush supporters and all others. It's not one line for Bush and one line for Kerry and one line for all others. And that is exactly how he manages to keep his power. It doesn't matter how terrible of a job he has done because he has divided our nation in such a way that either you are with him or you are against him. It is as close to a cult as one can get.
Tell a lie enough times and people begin to believe it. The converse is also true. If you strangle the truth and never let it be repeated it will die. Thus the Bush strategy is to continuously pound the lies they wish to take hold on the public. No matter the criticism. No matter the refutations. Keep pounding the message and eventually it pushes aside everything else.
The inverse is never give a breath of air to a damaging story. Smuther it. Never even acknowledge it. If you do not give it life then it cannot grow.
The office of the President has an extrodinary control on the flow of dialog. The Bushies are using this to full effect. They control access. The dole out the stories they will acknowledge. They provide talking points only on the issues they want to see live. They do not acknowledge anything problematic in their administration. They distance themself from any turmoil.
In the end the only information the people have to determine who George Bush is will be the positive information that Bush fed them. Even the opponents attempt to tar him will fail because he controls whether he gives life to the accusations. The only thing one can hope for with this tactic is that they make a mistake and breath life into a story they think they can spin only to see it backfire on them.
