Will a large majority of Americans only pay attention to politics if sex is involved? Bitter irony for the "Republicans" that their beautiful war of "liberation" will forever be associated with those pictures of sexual perversion

The man-on-man posings must have the fundies crazy (for different reasons than why the world is crazy furious).

5. What? Every American, regardless of political label, sees this as torture,
and rape.

Bill and Monica's consensual sex is out of this league altogether. There is no equation.

8. What I'm getting at is that sex makes the masses of people pay attention
Other than that, there is a huge difference in the suffering caused and the hypocrisy.

14. Actually.......they don't all see it as torture....
Plenty of wing-nuts are defending it as "fraternity hazing" type of behavior. (Rush Limpballs, Newsmax, and many other knuckle draggers)

17. Sadly so. Rummy yesterday (?) drew a distinction 'tween abuse and torture.
Go figure. Their gut has to tell them different though.

15. I was in Lake City, Ga today in front of a TV watching the evening news
with a group of people and the several people were saying the sex scandal would erode and eventually end of support for the war.

10. No--there are some totally different things going on in people's minds
on this one. Monica was "bad boy" Clinton. Americans are not viewing these "poses" as torture for one thing (too bad they didn't hear the phone interview with one of the former prisoners on Hardball tonight--bullshit this was just 'funny' poses). They hate Iraqis in general because they are Arabs (as they hate foreigners in general). They hate the prisoners because they don't care if they were wrongfully imprisoned or not or how they were treated 'cause they "deserve it" and they think it's awful that we are going after good, patriotic, all American soliders who are risking life and limb over there for their country. And they believe Bush is innocent here like he is innocent of everything. Many are applauding that Bush never said "I'm sorry" to those worthless scum, i.e, the entire Arab world. They maybe getting a little bit more fed up with the war but it's basically because "those ingrates" don't deserve our magnificent presence. This is no "-gate" at all. And I'm actually, in thinking about it, scared to death that if the Dems push this hard, it will backlash on them. Bush could turn it from a black eye to a big wet Amureken kiss on the cheek in a nano-second. Watch out.

there are Repubs in Congress upset about it, too. But I do see what you're saying.

From Latimes, May 4th

Although the photos of Iraqi prisoners suffering humiliation may seem over the line, how does suffering such humiliation pale when the ultimate goal is to save lives? Granted, the photos seem somewhat tasteless, but what are these hard-core alleged insurgents suspected of? Killing and maiming innocent civilians and brave coalition soldiers alike? I don't think we as Americans have the right to complain about how the intelligence community conducts interrogations when its ultimate goal parallels ours: to save the lives of citizens.

Indeed, Gregg, what ARE they suspected of? Have they been charged with anything? Do they have any rights at all?

Good Lord.

16. Oh, it most definitely is our revenge for the Monica scandal.
Because, you know...the torturing of prisoners and a sexual act between two consenting adults are soooooo equal.

AN ARMY OF SCUM: Or, We're Looking For a Few Good Homosexual Rapists

NEW YORK--Now it's official: American troops occupying Iraq have become virtually indistinguishable from the SS. Like the Germans during World War II, they cordon off and bomb civilian villages to retaliate for guerilla attacks on their convoys. Like the blackshirts who terrorized Europe, America's victims disappear into hellish prisons ruled by sadists and murderers. The U.S. military is short just one item to achieve moral parity with the Nazis: gas chambers.
