The idea of "God is on our side" is such a stupid idea in the first place. I think we are supposed to be on "His" side, not him on ours.
Our whole save face bullshit that we give to the world is that we are doing this for the Iraqi people. In other words, we are morally superior, to these people, and so we have the right to give them "freedom".
We have the right to invade them and give them "freedom", because God gave them the "freedom". That's right. I betcha didn't know that, didja? I bet you thought it was us that gave them "freedom", but no, it was God what gave them their "freedom".
But even though God gave it to them, God can't make them take it see, (the ingrates), so we have to do what God couldn't do. We have to stuff God's gift down their throats. It's for their own good. Whatever it takes.
What ever it takes to give them "freedom", is excused, because God gave them the "freedom", and if God gave them the "freedom", then we're just doing the Lord's work. (God also gave them oil, but's it's okay for us to take that, because, you know, they gotta pay for us straightening them out.)
Since we only kill when we're "helping" people, "our" killing is not "bad" killing. The people that kill us, now that's "bad" killing. Illegal killing.
The lie that we are morally superior was the last vestige of pseudo-legitimacy for us being in Iraq. There are no more reasons left.
We do not hold the moral highground in this "war". Never have, never will. And now it's been shattered to shreds by the pictures. Of course most of us will go on believing that we're better than other people.
I wonder what it means long-term when you don't hold the moral high ground in a war?
