Look. How Can You Say What an American Does Is Not What Americans Do?
I mean really.

Ten americans get caught doing what americans do, because, after all, they are "americans", ate McDonalds & Cokes, and baseball, mom and apple pie. Fourth of July and all that, you know the routine. They are americans okay? Americans did something and then you say "that's not what americans do". It's absurd.

SO STOP IT.

1. Well Roy Kohn was quite the rat bastard
I don't think that means that is what gay men do.

5. True, but..
Conversely you can't say "Gay men don't do that" when the topic on the table is a gay man who did. He may not be representative, but it would be disingenuous to claim that no gay man would ever do what he did.

9. Bushit was speaking TO the Arab people.
He needs to convince THEM, not me (I know we don't do this as a rule).

It's a damn fine, fine line.

2. Perhaps he was refering to a platonic ideal of an American
Na. Only thing George ever had to do with Plato was visiting a grotto named after him.

14. Too many "Americans"
have been referring to this incident as "hazing" for my comfort.

That's what Americans do .. make excuses.

3. If you want to think only in terms of generalizations...
...go ahead and say it.

If you prefer to think, well that's a whole 'nother story.

4. My thoughts exactly!
It's as if he (they) think his audience will react like his usual handpicked namby-pampy american audiences who get off just hearing the word "american" spoken like a drunk.

THAT'S not what Americans do. No sirree-bob no. I guess those guys are going off to Gitmo now. Bush just took their citizenship away.

6. Well, Jeff Dahmer killed and ate his lovers
and he was an American... but not all Americans do that. In fact, you could certainly argue that Americans don't do that if you are speaking in generalities greater than 1 our of 300 million.

10. Oh just stop it. When one person does a thing, no one would ever
make nationality an issue. The only exception to this seems to be with blacks. One does something bad and they're all bad.

Get a better example. Or JUST STOP IT! :)

11. the difference between 1 and 10 is irrelevant
don't you think compared to the 299,999,999 other Americans?

Frame your argument better, or you stop it.

17. Go inside of america's prisons, and see if
that's what americans do. Just Stop It. We are talking about a war in which we are claiming to be morally superior. The soldiers who committed the abuse, were american soldiers. I don't know of any war, where the soldiers don't rape, and abuse the people they have to occupy.

The myth that americans are somehow different, is horsedukey.

JUST STOP IT!

7. damn straight. labels are for soup cans.

but the problem is, someone likes to see things in terms of "evil doers" and by extension, guys in white cowboy hats (is that you, John Wayne?), and when something like this "abuse" comes to light, I halfway expect to see some spokesman on the tube melting down like one of the robots on old Star Trek when they tell it everything I say is a lie.

there is NO difference between the soldiers and the citizens.

I'm just sick about this, just sick.

to be tender minded does not become a sword.
