2. Gitmo isn't America neither is holding Americans w/o due process.,
Under Bush, we're not Americans anymore. Under Bush, power is America, not the people.

3. Olympia jumps the aisle again.
Thanks Senator ... now could you please switch parties? I am sure the Cabal is fuming over your turncoat ways.

She speaks for the majority of her constituents at times like this.

10. Time for her to do the right thing.....
Snowe and Collins should jump the aisle. Olympia is a lot closer to being a Kerry Democrat than a Bush Republican. I've sent her a bunch of e-mails asking her to move accross the aisle....we are waiting, Olympia.

13. Good for you! She and Collins should ...
both turn Independent and be the two most powerful people in Washington.

4. Welcome to DU
:hi:

We should start a list of everything Bush should apologize for. However, we will never see an apology. It's not part of his personality.

5. it isn't America?
I think the entire prison torture scandal is a logical result of a very sick society that views horrific violence in movies and television as 'entertainment'. When we see people brutalized and suffering in our popular media we justify it as 'not real' and clamor for more.

Did you see the big grins on those soldiers? This was pure entertainment for them. It wasn't 'real' to them either because obviously they view these people as sub-humans.

I think this whole disgusting event is *very* American.

9. Agreed. I'm having trouble seeing what's "un-American" about this
Humiliation and sexual abuse of prisoners isn't exactly a foreign import. Hell, there were prison guards in California that recently got busted for arranging gladiator matches between inmates. The women's block was used as a de facto whorehouse. What's so weird about Abu Ghraib? Business as usual, if you ask me.

15. Bush had it in his hands to alliviate serious apprehensions and concerns
our troops over there must have. He could have defused the situation (a little) by apologizing in a very serious mode to the Iraqi Nation and make reparations to the affected Families. Like a million $ ea. That would cut some slack for the troops as they fret about being captured alive......

16. I think all the congress is a little peeved and tired
(And it's about damn time!) of having to hear what's going on in Iraq until 60 Minutes breaks the story!
