My take on the Disney "stopping" Moore's new movie
Edited on Wed May-05-04 10:55 AM by sgr2
Relax folks, it's a ploy to increase profit. Gibson's company did the same thing, complaining that they were being censored by their distribution company, who then turned around (once they'd gotten a gazillion dollars in free advertising) and distributed to every corner of the world. If you think Disney doesn't smell a big profit, you're crazy.

1. That'll be the outcome, for sure
I'm not sure it was their intent, though.

2. I agree
This is great free publicity for the film. By the time the film comes out - not one person in the world will have not heard about it. I love it:evilgrin:

3. He still has Cannes
even if Disney doesn't distribute in the end, somebody else will pick it up because it's too juicy a story to miss.

7. Disney bought Miramax
in the early 90s, I think.

It's very strange, b/c Miramax produces esoteric, art-house type fare.

6. I'm thinking that Disney saying that Jeb
may penalize them for distributing the film will insure that Jeb doesn't. It is an insurance policy against retaliation.

8. This also takes the heat off of them with the fundies/freepers
They can look like they tried to stop it, but then appear to cave to pressure from outside, put it into distribution and earn gazillions anyway.
